TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
April 12, 1962
The Committee met at the Town Offices at 8:00
p m Present were : Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Fox and
Messrs Poplawski. Howard, Cobb, Gilman and Gaughan
Mrs Fernberger and Mr Douglass were absent Also
present were Police Chief Rycroft; Mr Lewis, Chief
Marshal and Dr MacDonald, a representative of the
Civilian Defense
Boy Scouts are to be used as runners and mes- APRIL 19
sengers in the parades, and check unauthorized vehicles
or individuals
A series of questions to be brought to the at-
tention of Chief Rycroft were discussed.
The float from the Naval. Shipyard is manned by
paid men, and in order not to go into overtime, they
will be instructed to go right out Bedford St. to Rte.

Mr Cobb presented a plan for reserving an area
for foreign guests The Chief felt that there were
more police at the Green, and it would be better to
have it there than at Cary. fl
Mr Howard told Chief Rycroft of the demonstra-
tion by the Sixth Mass Continentals, and it was de-
cided they couldperform the Manual of Arms, but only
fire if conditions are safe, and with the permission of
the Chief The Lexington Minute-men will be used to
hold back the crowd
Chief Rycroft said that the Air Force Drum and
Bugle Corps would have plenty of time to get there from
Concord and would not need a police escort.
Chief Rycroft mentioned that he had not seen any
reference to Revere and Dawes riding this year. Mrs .
Fox was able to pin this down as certain For future
reference, Mr DiCarlo is listed under his wife 's name
in the phone book (Josephine DiCarlo)
Flag Exchange With Concord: Dr MacDonald discussed
with us the Fiske Hill Ceremony The Concord Scouts
are anxious to be there to continue their exchange of
flags as before Some of our Selectmen will be there
to take part in addition to Committee members

Bells Across The Nation: Members of the American
Legion will be at the Minute-Man Publications at 3:00,
Monday, to meet Maj Gen Thomas Donnelly of the
National Guard for publicity pictures Mr. Sherman
will take pictures
Chief Marshal. P.M. Parade. Mr Lewis: Mr Lewis told
us of some last minute changes in the roster The
committee made and seconded a motion that an antique
fire engine offered us from Acton could enter the
parade only with the antique cars, and they could not
throw out candy or advertise on the engine
Mr Litchfield reported that the Coast Guard
participants have arranged to come in their own cars.
The American Legion will host them after the parade.
The Symmes Auxiliary will have a float
Col Nottingham, Information Officer of Hanscom
Field, is to be invited to lunch and the reviewing
stand
Mrs Fox reported that the Prom-Manaders were
worried about being able to get to the parade assembly
point and back It was decided to write a letter for
them to use as a pass
Mrs Ruth Morey, ex-chairman of the Board of
Selectmen, will drive an official car, and will be
asked to lunch, the reviewing stand and the reception.
Col. Brown's offer to have movies taken (Mitre
Corp. ) was discussed It was decided to accept, but
not interfere or change the plans to have Eric Handley
and Bruce Obear be our official photographers
The Committee discussed at length the position
of the roped off area for guests.
Mr Poplawski made a motion that we use 2 of
our U.N. flags at the area The motion lost as a
result of a tie vote
by Mrs Fox in the absence
of Mrs Gernberger
