TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
April 5, 1962
The Committee met at the Town Offices at 8:00
p m. Present were : Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield and
Messrs. Gaughan, Howard, Gilman, Cobb and Poplawski.
Floats : Civil Rights Committee and Lexington Women APRIL 19
For Peace have been added to the 4th Division Symmes
Auxiliary (Mrs Quick) would like to enter a float.
The Chamber of Commerce and Rotary are definite.
Antloue Cars : Fifteen antique cars are coming, includ-
ing some from the North Shore Club and 3 or 4 from Lex-
ington
Minute Men: Arrangements must be made with the police
for demonstration of firing muskets .
Foreign Visitors : There are 76 guests for 70 places in
the reviewing stand It is suggested that an area be
roped off for groups of foreign guests with proper
police protection provided by the town. In the dis-
cussion it was felt by some of the Committee that this
will be too unwieldy to handle ; that it will grow to
I too many since many people will invite foreign students.
The Committee agreed with the plan to rope off an area
for these people and suggested that it be in front of
Town Hall Chairs will be the responsibility of the
hosting group Will suggest that they use the Peter-
son Chair Company, Winchester (Mr Corrigan, Bedford
St. , local contact ) Deadline will be April 15 so that
we can rope off a large enough area Mrs. Fernberger
will liaison this project.
Church Bells: Church bells will ring at 6 :30 a m. at
Follen, Hancock, First Parish, Episcopal, and First
Baptist Churches The American Legion is sponsoring a
"Bells Across the Nation" on April 19, at which date
bells all across the country will be rung at 1 p m to
signify American unity They will be rung for 4 minu-
tes ; the National Guard will give national publicity.
Publicity: Suggestions for next week' s publicity were
discussed.
Changes The Fort Ticonderogo cannon has been returned
to the museum at Fort Ticonderoga Hdcd 94th Inf
Division, Army Base, Boston 10, Major Lassidy is
evidently the man who knows most about this.

Chapter 107 Stoneham VFW will participate in the
afternoon parade
U S Navy has changed its ship which will be
sending a marching unit from the W A. Lee to the U S.
S Camp (Lt J G Murphy) .
Belles and Bellettes of St Mary' s will be in the
2d Division behind the Maynard High School Band
Antique Cars will be moved from the end of the
5th Division to behind the floats of the 4th This
has been OK'd. by Mr Lewis
Maj Gen. T.J. Donnelly has been invited He
will send a Nike-Ajax missile which will be in the 1st
Division. (Maj Gen. Donnelly is from the Mass National
Guard )
Mr Howard is trying to obtain the amphibious
duck belonging to the Revere Civilian Defense
We are still open for an air Force marching unit
and color guard
Mr White says that both Lexington Junior High
Bands will be in the morning parade The Senior High
will only be in the afternoon parade
Leo Poplawski is having Custance Bro. look over
the stand and estimate costs for uprights for canvas
canopy before the stand is taken down this year He
still has responsibility for protection against in-
clement weather
Mr. Howard reviewed progress of the various de-
tails on the check list
