TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 8, 1962
The Committee met at the Town Offices at 8:00
p.m. Present were: Mrs Fox, Mrs. Litchfield and
Messrs Poplawski, Howard, Cobb, Gilman and Douglass
Present also were Douglass Maxner, Raymond Lewis,
William Bongiorno and Grady Holt (Boy Scouts) .
"Spirit of '76" costume : Mr Maxner gave some advice APRIL 19
about the leggings for this costume He has offered
his services to assist with the Drum and Bugle Corps
competition next year, and also suggested that the
"Spirit of '76" be not so far ahead of the parade Mr
Howard requested that Mr Maxner present a written
description of the "Spirit of '7(" as he has inter-
preted it through the years for the committee' s future
reference It was explained that the "Spirit of '76"
was asked last year to keep the parade in sight and
take breaks with the rest of the parade Rope drums
will be borrowed from Mr Maxner; all needed now is a
colonial hat John Clarke willbe the fifer this year
Second Division: Raymond Lewis reported the following
appointments: John J. Rudd, Marshal, from the Marine
Corps League; Horace G Dearborn, Aide, from the Ameri-
can Legion.
Mr Lewis suggested having a staff band come im-
mediately behind the staff and before the guests so
that the staff has good music to march to Having the
band behind the cars carrying honored guests make it
difficult for the staff to hear

had at the cleanser with him and will see if he can
locate the others with Neil Cronin
Correspondence: Swampscott High School Band cannot come
Mr Gillespie has suggested inviting Lynn and Fitchburg.

St Anthony's has not answered yet
Franklin Hill Campfire Girls would like to come
The Coast Guard will come with a parade marching unit
We will respond with a request for them to bring a piece
of equipment
Revere Public High School has requested copies of the
"Bill of Rights" we published, which Mrs Litchfield
will follow up.
Shaw-Walker has a 4-drawer filing cabinet, with lock,
delivered for $76.04.
Sons of Union Veterans would come, but for $125 We
will thank them but refuse this year since we have
already made our commitments.

Marine Corps League: The Marine Corps League has re-
quested an appropriation for hosting expenses follow- rm
ing the usual pattern in the past as practiced by the
VFW and the American Legion The customary amount is
$75 , and the League will advise this committee of its
hosting function this year The Committee will then
take the matter under advisement.
March 17 Parade Mr Howard urged as many members of
the TCC as possible to attend the Evacuation Day
Parade since it falls on a Saturday this year, hope-
fully to pick up some ideas
Track Meet and Baseball Game, April 19: This meet has
been called off in Lexington this year
Boy Scouts: Mr Howard explained the formation of the
parade and how the scouts fit in in the past morning
parades The committee would like to give some at-
tention to the Scouting movement by appointing several
Eagle Scouts as Aides There has, in the past, been
competition among the various units for each unit to
carry something, i.e , American flags, in the morning
parade. We will need names of the Aides and those
scouts giving the oath in the morning parade It is
hoped that the scouts will also participate with a
float this year, especially since the Girl Scouts are
planning one
City of Boston: Mrs Fox will prepare our part of the
City of Boston program for April 19 activities in the
area.
Check List Mr Howard went through the check list for
April 19 The Civil Defense group will participate
Leo Gaughan has been in contact with neighborhood groups
to see if some will participate The old fire engine
(Lexington' s first) will be listed on the roster, and
will be placed somewhere appropriate All Division
Marshals are arranged for Division 4 Marshal will be
from the TCC, but the decision has not been made yet,
since one or the other of those who might be chosen
have alternately been in absentia
Lady Lexington: The Prom-Manaders would like to borrow
the 2 portraits of Lady Lexington for display in the
High School in celebration of their 10th anniversary.
Mrs Fox will try to arrange for her picture to appear
on the cover of the rotogravure section of either the
Globe or the Sunday Herald

Mrs. Fox has interviewed 5 of the clergymen THANKS-
about future Lexington Thanksgiving observances and GIVING
will write a report when all have been contacted
