HomeMy WebLinkAbout1962-02-01-TCC-min.pdf 6 433 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 1, 1962 The Committee metat the Town Offices at 8 :00 p m Present were : Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield and Messrs. Gilman, Cobb, Howard, Poplawski , Gaughan and Douglass Also present were members of various town organizations. Mr. Howard explained the theme, cos- tumes for the Spirit of '76, and introduced the com- mittee Those present included : Blue Birds and Camp Fire Girls (Mr Frank Gallagher) , APRIL 19 who will be in the same place in the parade as last year One of each group will be delegated to give their pledge at the morning ceremony ; Hayden, represented by Mrs. Bertha W. Johnson, 9 Knowles Rd . , who will have 45 girl twirlers and 12 boy drummers , no float ; 4-H Club, represented by Paul Lloyd, 202 Cedar St. , which will have 20 mounted horses ; American Legion, represented by Mr Mel Hunt, who will appoint someone to take care of the "unorganized" children in the morning parade. Marshalls : Ray Lewis named as aides to the chief marshall, Cornelious P. Cronin and Mel B. Hunt, Jr Afternoon parade : Prom-Menaders will select Lady Lex- ington at the March 24 Tenth Anniversary Birthday Ball Lady Lexington and her escort, Arnold (Bud) Falcione, 386 Marrett Rd , will attend the luncheon. Marine Corps Leazue : They will have a color guard, commandant and staff and will work with the Legion in helping guide the children. The League would like to have a float and wi'l inform the committee by next week James Broderick, 15 Maple St. , represented the organization Minute Men: (3d Division) , represented by John Ward, will be in the morning parade, go to Concord, and be back in Lexington for the DAR Ceremony They are host- ing the Ancient and Honorable Centennial Legions, five or six of which will come, and there is some possibility of firing their muskets at the DAR Ceremony. That is, Whitcomb Rangers will fire their muskets DeMolay: will have 3 autos and a color guard in the l'J afternoon parade The cars will be clearly marked as to their purpose in the parade. 4 434 Elks: represented by Mr. Belcastro, will have a march- ing unit and float Discussion about the 4th Division (civic) led to a suggestion to have another military group lead the fourth The alternative is to keep all the veterans in the 2d Division and rotate the marshalls within this group. In any event, Hay Lewis should use his judgment this year in handling who goes where Mrs Litchfield will write Mr. George White about the band cadence Both Jr High' s will march Mr Howard will send a check list to the committee for Patriots' Day delineating jobs to the various com- mittee members Mrs Fernberger will take care of all arrange- ments for the luncheon, including the menu, seating plan. place cards, name tags and setting up the dining room Floats: To determine judging rules, Dean Duncan will meet with Mr Howard and Mr Gaughan Drum and Bugle Corps : still nothing definite Selectmen have been invited to march in the morning parade Expenses : 250th - $5 (from petty cash) for supplies chairs - $0.14 each envelopes - $25 for 1000 Correspondence: Lt Col K.S. Brown wrote to send in- formation on the Minute Man Missile Brad Morse wrote that he had received a letter from the Old Guard stat- ing that we might have to defray costs We will write back to find out what these costs might be. Fleepo, the Clown, has requested permission to enter the parade It is susgested that Mr Edward Armitage Hill, Macy' s Parade Director, be invited to be our guest at the luncheon, parade and reception Mr Hill runs the Thanksgiving Parade for Macy's. Copies of a memorandum to the Committee and its own committee have been sent by the 250th subcommittee stating the responsibilities and operation of that com- mittee They will meet with us March 1 Linda Fernberger, Recording Secretary
