HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-11-16-TCC-min.pdf 423 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE November 16, 1961 The Committee met at the Town Offices at 8:00 p.m. Present were : Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield, and Messrs Howard, Cobb, Gilman, Poplawski and Douglass Letters have been sent to all participating THANKS- clergy, and Mrs Fox has sent the Governor's proclama- GIVING tion to Mrs Morey The 4-H Club will decorate the platform, and a microphone, 6 red chairs, the lecturn and water will be set up by the custodian The prob- lem of choral risers ($12 labor) versus orchestral risers ($30 labor) has been settled in favor of the former Ushers will be at the High School at 7:30 Programs were divided for delivery by the committee members for delivery to churches Routine requests will be sent now for university APRIL 19 ROTC bands (Boston University, Tufts. Northeastern) as well as the Grotto Oriental, Mattatuck Drum Band, Boston Fire Department and Clan MacPherson Mrs Litchfield has heard from the Navy, for the Navy and Marine bands, who have accepted Arthur Douglass reported that 5 of 7 service clubs are in favor of a Drum and Bugle contest, with the Kiwanis and Knights of Columbus still to make their decision. The Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, J. C 's, Lions, and B.P.O E are those so favorably in- clined It is stressed that these organizations should still enter floats in the parade, even with their interest in the Drum and Bugle contest The situation of the bell is being actively in- vestigated More tricorns must be ordered, as well as a wig for the "Spirit of '76" Discussion of who should be on this committee, 250TH a sub-committee of the TCC, brought out : that various interest groups be represented (both service and fraternal) ; that the historical society be included that there be several women that groups and people be divided and matched The principal of the high school has written a U N DAY letter to the committee thanking us for the program on U N Day. Trips to New York were successful Mrs Fox - attended the Rotary luncheon Unfortunately, the Board 424 of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce voted not to appropriate funds for our U.N. promotion Although a .-1 thank you letter had already been sent, this was re- trieved TREASURY The TCC budget report will be handed to the Selectmen before December 11 We have recieved a $25 check from the Kiwanis, and must check with Mr Carroll about cashing this or depositing it in order that it is not deposited in the E & D fund DEC. 6 April 19 films of 1960 and 1961 will be shown MTG. to various former chairmen and. interested people on December 6.
