p m Present were Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs
Fernberger, and Messrs Poplawski, Gaughan, Cobb,
and Howard Mr Douglass was absent. Present also
was Mr Vedette, Kiwanis Club and Mr. Bongiorno, past
member of TCC.
Mr Howard reported that after a meeting with U.N. DAY
Alan Adams and Leon Burke, the Minute Man will insure
photographic coverage of the morning event and the
evening meeting with Congressman Morse Probably a
police photographer will cover the flag raising

send a letter of condolence to Martin Gilman on the
death of his mother
Chamber of Commerce : The Vice President has reassured
us that they will appropriate $25 to help defray the
cost of U.N materials to merchants Mr Vedette re-
ported that Kiwanis will also contribute $25 for this
Flag Raising Ceremony details have all been arranged
for Selectmen have sent a letter of approval for flag
display on the common the Lions Club will present the
flag to one of the Selectmen (either Cole or Richards)
and the Marine Corps League Color Guard will then run
the 2 flags up the pole.
Store Promotions are under way Battle Green Inn has
given us the use of an empty store on Waltham St. ,
which was set up for poster distribution The center
was well covered by a aelegatson or small lox and
Fernberger children who acted as the U N. poster com-
mittee and handed out material with gay abandon Let-
ters were sent to all participating stores beforehand.
Supposedly ads in the Minute Man will be slanted to-
wards the U.N. next week, hopefully with some sort of
cooperative ad
The Essay Contest was held 59 essays were submitted
Title of Congressman Morse 's United Nations Day
Address will be "A Rejoinder for Reason" - an outline
of the role of the individual citizen's responsibility
in the entire matter of world peace Letters have been
sent to all clubs, churches, and town committees about
L- the Morse Meeting Representatives Brox and Bocko, and
420
Senator Long were invited to attend also Publicity
will be sent to radio and television stations The
Globe and Herald were also contacted, and it was sug-
gested that Streeter Stuart be called.
The time schedule for the day's events was re-
viewed (See Exhibit 1)
THANKS- All participating clergy have been arranged for,
GIVING including the priest from the Sacred Heart Church who
will give the Invocation Mr Madden's topic will be
"Thanksgiving and. Self Government " The Choral Society
will restrict its performance to 2 numbers, in succession
Unfortunately, the Historical Society will not
be able to furnish chairs for this service, or partici-
pate in any school assembly programs There is some
slight possibility that a lobby display can be arranged
for, but this seems doubtful Mr Howard was authorized
to discuss those matters personally with Mr. Noyes,
President of the Society It was suggested that the
Garden Club do some floral arrangement, or if not,
perhaps the 4-H Club might
We will try once more to have the Council of
Churches represented at the next meeting of this
committee
PUBLICITY There are no publicity problems
SECRETARY- Mrs Litchfield reports that vouchers for the
TREASURER appropriation for next year will be ready for the next
meeting She will write to Norwich, the Army and Navy
for their band participation in the April 19 celebration
THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF LEXINGTON'S INCORPORATION
The Selectmen have stated. in a letter to us that
"The Board is of the opinion that it should be the
function of your committee to arrange the program and
make suggestions as to the enlargement of the committee
in the areas it thinks advisable."
Several ideas on the above were brought forward
for further consideration and discussion at the next
meeting
1 Combine it with April 19 that year (1963)
2 Appoint a sub-committee
3 Plan a full dress ball preceeding April 19 or
in conjunction with it.
At the moment, we should decide upon the sub-committee,
not the program

Recording Secretary
