HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-04-13-TCC-min.pdf 389 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE April 13, 1961 The sixteenth meeting of the Town Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen's Room of the Town Office Building at 8:00 p.m. , with Mr Cornelius Cronin, Chairman, presiding Present were Mrs Fox, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Williams, and Messrs Cronin, Howard, Bongiorno, Cobb, Douglass and Gilman. Also present were : Bruce Sloane, drummer in "Spirit of '76" unit from Carlisle; John Clarke, Eliot Rd , fifer in "Spirit of '76" unit John King, Jr. , Shade St. , drummer in "Spirit of '76" unit ; Mr Edmund Cady and Mr Hiscock representing the Lexington Minute Men Mrs Philip Pullen, Percy Rd , ex-member of Cele- brations Committee, observing: Mr Lincoln Cole, Jr. , ex-member of T C.C. and Selectman, observing; and Mr Arthur Burnell, Lexington Civil Defense. "Spirit of '76" Group: APRIL 19 1 Mr Clarke suggested that the Continental Flag I should be used for more historical accuracy 2 Mr Cronin instructed the group to stay within sight of the parade, which will follow the "Spirit of '76" group. 3 Mrs Fox will pick up the brown wig and beard, which is being rented from the Costume Service Center in Boston, and will deliver them to Mr. Clarke' s house 4 Miss Arline Clark of the L H S Home Economics Department and her students Linda Neal Patricia King and Lois Quick, have completedmaking the costumes. (Mr. Cobb suggested that notes of appreciation should be sent to each of them ) Lexington Minute Men Organization: 1 Discussed problems of spacing in theP arade 2 Lt Col Patrick F Zito, National Commander of the Centennial Legions, will be present (It was the con- sensus of the meeting that he should be sent an invita- tion by the Committee to be present on the reviewing stand ) 390 Civil Defense Communications Cars : 1 Mr Burnell suggested that next year plans for the use of Communications Cars be made at least 1 month in advance of the parade 2 The cars will be identified by signs which the Lex Civil Defense will purchase and keep for future use 3 Communications cars will be stationed at the E Lexington Fire Station, Munroe Schooland at the ihter- section of Pleasant St. and Mass Ave One car, each, will be with the marshals of the first four divisions and one radio will be at the reviewing stand L.H.S. Photo Contest : Local merchants will not donate prizes for the Camera Club Contest until approval for the soliciting of prizes is granted to the students by the Chamber of Commerce. (Mr Lincoln Cole, Jr. offered $5 toward prizes for the contest if the Camera Club is unable to secure them otherwise ) Minuteman Freedom Committee : 1 The African U.N delegates do not plan to go to Concord. They will be present for the 11 :00 a.m. ceremony on Lexington Green at which the D A.H. Regent, Mrs Arthur G Bernier, will introduce Mrs Morey, Chairman of th Board of Selectmen, who will read. the Governor' s Proclamation Mrs Morey will introduce Mr Anderson of the National Park Service who will give 2 official certificates to the Board of Selectmen, de- signating Lexington Green and Buckman Tavern as National Historic Landmarks 2 The African delegates will not be in the parade 3. Twenty-five Celebrations Committee booklets have been sent to Dr Smith for souvenirs for the visiting delegates Luncheon: Mrs Litchfield and Mrs Williams will in- form the restaurant of the Battle Green Inn of the exact number of guests expected for the luncheon Mrs Williams will make place cards for the luncheon, and 22 souvenir Minute-man pins for ladies attending the luncheon are being gift wrapped through the courtesy of Brigham' s, Inc Parade: Mr Douglass reported that a dozen automobiles are needed for transporting dignitaries Five or six cars are available from Lexington dealers (It was suggested that he request automobiles from out-of-town dealers ) 391 A sign of some sort will be put in front of the Home for Aged Persons so that bands will play there Reception: A Lexington citizen, Mrs Ruth Moyle, has offered (for the cost of the ingredients, only) to provide coffee, served from her own silver tea service, to guests of the Committee as they tour Buckman Tavern (if permission for this is granted by the Lexington Historical Society) and later at the reception It was suggested that, next year, Mrs Moyle be engaged to pro- vide the coffee and food, also Publicity: Mrs Fox will have the White Tricorn Hat story in next week's paper Mrs Fox will decorate "Foster's" display window, using the photograph of • "Lady Lexington" as the focal point Miscellaneous: 1. A roster should be sent to Dr McDonald of Concord's • Celebration Committee 2. State Senator Long accepts the invitation 3. The Navoy Restaurant will be informed that 75 to 85 men will be there for lunch 4. The Metropolitan Bus Co will send a bus to pick up U.S.S. LEE Navy parade participants The cost is $32. 50. 5. M. T.A will send a bus to Constitution Wharf to pick up 20-25 Coast Guard participants. 6. Whitcomb Rangers, Sixth Massachusetts, submit re- quest for permission to fire their muskets The re- quest will be considered another year Also, some other year drill maneuvers might he nermitterl at trim end of the parade At present, the policy is that none, except forward maneuvers, will be permitted in the parade Georgia, H Williams, , Recording Secretary L 392 f
