HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-01-05-TCC-min.pdf 343 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE Janaury 5, 1961 The fifth meeting of the Town Celebrations Com- mittee (1960-_1) was held in the Selectmen 's Room of the Town Office Building at 8 :00 p m Present were : Mrs. Fox, Mrs Willians, Mrs Litchfield and Messrs Cronin, Cobb, Bongiorno, Howard and Gilman Mr Cronin, Chairman, reviewed the minutes of the November loth meeting Mr Cronin read a letter from the Board of Selectmen requesting that the Celebrations Committee submit to the Selectme a report covering clearly the work of the Committee for The preceding year (Mrs 4illiams will write the report which will include in- formation about- United Natirns Dav ceremonies and the essay contest, Patriots ' Day and the Booklet and Thanksgiving ) A review of the Service was made by the Committee THANKS- with t' e resulting suggestions and comments for the GIVING future 1 Mr Gilman That children' s choirs nicht be used and that they wo' ld he a drawing card for a lager attendance Also, that the service night have core warmth if it were held in a church instead of the High School 2 Mr HoTgard That the service was a success and the speaker couldn 't have been better However, it failed to have the color or pageantry which one assoc- iates with Thanksgiving Also, it would be well to find some means of injecting warmth into the Service He noted that as a Community project , the attendance -didn't represent a large enough percentage of the Com- runity He suggested that the High School A Capella Choir, organist and director be maintained but, in addition, all of the church choirs might be invited to participate and the format for the uervice might be as follows Choir Recital of Thanksgiving Songs (each church's choir makinn a crntribution) Invocation Pledge of Allegiance (led and demonstrated by one or more youth groups ) Reading of the Governor' s Proclamation (Minute Men forni -.g a corridor for Chairman of Board of Selectmen) 344 Patriotic Song.
