Janaury 5, 1961
The fifth meeting of the Town Celebrations Com-
mittee (1960-_1) was held in the Selectmen 's Room of
the Town Office Building at 8 :00 p m Present were :
Mrs. Fox, Mrs Willians, Mrs Litchfield and Messrs
Cronin, Cobb, Bongiorno, Howard and Gilman
Mr Cronin, Chairman, reviewed the minutes of
the November loth meeting
Mr Cronin read a letter from the Board of
Selectmen requesting that the Celebrations Committee
submit to the Selectme a report covering clearly the
work of the Committee for The preceding year (Mrs
4illiams will write the report which will include in-
formation about- United Natirns Dav ceremonies and the
essay contest, Patriots ' Day and the Booklet and
Thanksgiving )
A review of the Service was made by the Committee THANKS-
with t' e resulting suggestions and comments for the GIVING
future
1 Mr Gilman That children' s choirs nicht
be used and that they wo' ld he a drawing card for a
lager attendance Also, that the service night have
core warmth if it were held in a church instead of the
High School
2 Mr HoTgard That the service was a success
and the speaker couldn 't have been better However, it
failed to have the color or pageantry which one assoc-
iates with Thanksgiving Also, it would be well to
find some means of injecting warmth into the Service
He noted that as a Community project , the attendance
-didn't represent a large enough percentage of the Com-
runity He suggested that the High School A Capella
Choir, organist and director be maintained but, in
addition, all of the church choirs might be invited to
participate and the format for the uervice might be as
follows
Choir Recital of Thanksgiving Songs (each church's
choir makinn a crntribution)
Invocation
Pledge of Allegiance (led and demonstrated by one or
more youth groups )
Reading of the Governor' s Proclamation (Minute Men
forni -.g a corridor for Chairman of Board of
