TUN CETEPRATIONS COMMITTEE
October 20, 1260
The third meeting of the 1960- '61 Town Celebra-
tions Committee was held in the Town Accountant 's
Office of the Town Office Building at 8 CO p m
Present •rere Mrs Williams, Mrs Litchfield , Yrs
Fox and Messrs Cronin, Cobb, Douglass and Gilman
Tree-planting Yr Cronin read a letter from Miss U N DAY
Hilda L Ma, field, Principal of Parker "chool, out-
lining the program which will take place at Parker
School on United Nations Day , October 24, at 11 00
a m (Members of the Celebrations Committee are in-
vited to be present )
High School U N Assembly Mrs Fox gave an outline
of the program which will be presented on United
Nations Day, October 24 at 1 45 p m The United Nations
Essay Content winners will be presented with "symbolic
gifts" by Mr Hinchliffe , President of the Rotary Club
Later, they v-ill he given a trip to the United Nations
in New York by the Rotary Clap
Other U N observances A play will be presented at
Ada s School on U N Day
United Nations Flags The Lexington Lions Club has
ordered 10 U N flans (4 ft by 6 ft ) which will be
presented to Lexington schools (Stands are needed
for the flags It was sux_ ested that manual training
classes might make them )
Speaker Mr iio 4ar.d reported that Dr Jacobs , Presi- THANKS-
dent of Trinity College , had sent regrets that he will GIVING
be unable to be the speak r (Mr Howard hope: that
Dr Harold Hunt of Lexington will accept )
Participants in Service : Letters of acknowledgement
have been received from Father Casey who states that
Rev John P Fitzpatric will give the invocation, and
from Rabbi Rosenbloom who will. give the Benediction )
Music Mrs Sandberger requests that her name as
"Organist and Choir Director" appear only once on the
1960 program ("r Cobb will ask Mrs Sandberger for
the names of the anthems which will be used for make-up
of the pro 'ram

Youth Groups ' Participation : Mr Howard will follow up
last year' s suggestion that the youth groups of various
churches be urged to attend the service
APRIL 19 Bands Invitations will be sent to the following bands ,
immediately :
Norwich University Northeastern University
Fort Devens Gloucester High School
1Rth Army, U F A Maynard High School
First Naval District Athol High School
Reading High School
Note St Mary' s Annunciators will not be invited this
year An invitation will be sent to St Rose Rectory,
Chelsea, instead
Mr Gilman recommended that the ' 'altham American
Legion Band be invited to participate in the 1961
parade (He was authorized to invite the band to come
and to offer a 11:50 donation plus transportation )
Reception Mr Douglass will be in charge of the re-
• ception
Theme "FAITH ITT FRE'TDOli " was suggested as a possible
theme Other suggestions 411 be considered at the
next meetin,
Loul Speaker System Mr Howard will contact "mxec-U-
Phone" about microphones and speakers for Patriots Day
Floats Mr Co'-b suggested that Mrs Litchfield write
a letter to the Chamber of Commerce proposing that the
rules and regulations for entry of floats be rewritten
and suggest that a 4th category (for amateur floats
costing a small amount of money) be considered
The ±outh Category trophy must he replaced in 1961
Home Decoration : The Junior Chamber of Commerce voted
last year that townspeople should be inspired to do
more about decorating houses , particularly those along
the parade route Nothing was done The project will
he pursued amain next year
