Town Celebrations Committee
March 31, 1060
The twenty-third meeting of the 1959-'60 Town
Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen's
Room of the Town Office Building at 8 :n0 p m. Present
were Mrs Pullen Mrs Litchfield , Mrs Williams , and
Messrs Cole, Cobb, Cronin, and Bongiorno Also
present were Mr John Ingraham and Mr Harold Worth
of the Shrine Grotto Oriental Band
Mrs Litchfield reported: APRIL 19
1 The Selectmen have been invited to the luncheon
2 The Governor of N H , Wesley Powell, sent a
letter of regret th. t he cannot come
3 A letter will be sent to Mr Sumner of Hayden
Center thanking the Center for the mimeographing of
the morning parade roster
4 General Yancey of the Second Briaale sent a
letter of regret
5 Senator Saltonsta.11 sent a letter regretting
that his schedule will not permit him to attend the
Celebration
6 A letter from Harold Smalley indicates that
the Salvation Army Band would like to participate
7 General Verbeck, Commanding General. of Ft
Devens plans to attend
Lexington Clergymen will be invited to partici-
pate in the morning parade
9 A request will be made to churches to have
church bells rung on April 19
10 A shuttle bus will be ordered
11 Wreaths for the Revolutionary Monument will. be
ordered from Carlsons' Florist
Luncheon Mr Howard reported
1 The Battlegreen Inn restaurant, (The Heritage
Room) , was most cooperative in making plans for the
April 19 luncheon The main dining room will be
give over to the Committee for the luncheon which will
cost '1 45 (plus gratuities, plus tax )
(MOTH The Committee expressed the opinion that if
the luncheon in successful this year, the Battlegreen
Inn restaurant should be considered for the luncheon
in 1961 )
2 Mr Howard and Mr Cole hal made reservations
and scheduled lunch for bands which will eat at the
Navoy Restaurant in Bedford

Booklet :
1 A form for copyrighting the booklet has been -
obtained The charge for copyrighting is 0 00 plus
X42 00 The form must have the signature of the chair-
man of the Celebrations Committee and must be notarized
2 Mr Poehler, Director of Instruction of Lex-
ington Public Schools had sent a. letter which gives
enrollment figures for each school and he requests
that the booklets must go to each school in time for
the Principal to place them in the appropriate boxes
A cover letter must go to each school with the booklets
3 The booklets will be delivered to the Church
of the Redeemer for counting out and for distribution
to the schools by the men of the Committee Mr
Bongiorno and Mr Howard , the High School and 2 Junior
High Schools Mr Cole,-Parker, Fiske and Maria
Hastings : Mr Cronin--Hancock, Franklin, Munroe and
Adams Mr Cobb--Harrington
4 Medill Bair, Supt of Schools, had sent a
letter of conratulations for the publication of the
booklet
5 Mr Howard stated that he is "tremendously
impressed" with the brochure
Movies Mr Cobb was authorized by the Committee to
obtain official movies of the 1060 parade, and to rent
the camera and sufficient equipment from the Theater
Pharmacy (David Vogt will take the movies )
Lexington Guides : Mr Leigh Jones had made an official
portrait photograph of Lady Lexington on Saturday morning
The Boston Herald newspaper is interested in a
three-picture story about "Lady Lexington-1960" for
its April 17, 1960 issue (Rotogravure Section )
Lady Lexington should be invited to the Rotary
Club' s Patriots ' Eve Ball (Mr Bonpiorno will ascertain
whether or not she and her escort will be invited )
Bands Mr Harold Worth reported that the Shrine
Grotto Oriental Band will have several features making
up a unit 1 Color bearers 2 Patrol 3 Little
Float 4 One man 5 Leader of the Band 6 Band (23 pieces)
The $50 donation will go to the Cerebral Palsy
Fund and about i30 will be requested for transporta-
tion expenses
Mr Worth gave a picture of the Grotto Band for
use in the newspaper article
Miscellaneous : A letter had come to Lexington (via the
Dept of Uommerce of the Commonwealth) from Valley
Forge Center, King-of-Prussia, Pa , requestin- informa-
tion about the April 19 celebrations and Paul Revere

(Mrs Pullen will send a packet of material to Valley
Forge Center )
'I Future Suggestions :
1 Mr Cole recommended that there should be a
library of photographs of participating units and
floats
2 Mr Cronin stated that the Sunrise Parade
should be kept historical----a Lexington feature
the Afternoon Parade could be an "All -out 1960
parade "
