HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-03-24-TCC-min.pdf 309 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE March 24, 1960 The twenty-second meeting of the 1959-'60 Town Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen's Room of the Town Office Building at 7 3n p m Pr sent were Mrs Pullen, Mrs Williams, Mrs Litchfield and Messrs Cole, Cobb, Cronin, Howard, Douglass and Bongiorno Also present were Mrs L, Forte representing the Girl Scouts, Mrs Skinner representing the Hayden Recreation Center, Mr Sumner representing the Hayden Recreation Center and Mr Gustin, former member of the Town Celebrations Committee Booklet Mrs Pullen and Mr Cobb gave a copy of the APRIL 19 booklet, "The Celebration of April Nineteenth from 1776 to 1960 in Lexington, Massachusetts" to each member of the Celebrations Committee MR COT "' A 'D TUE COITMITTEE COMMENDED MRF PULL EN AND YR CO B ON TilT WONDERFUL, JOB W 'ICH THEY HAVE ACCOM- PLISHED IN WRITING AND PUPLISHIMC THE BOOKLET Mrs Pullen reported that 8000 booklets pacled 350 booklets each in 22 heavy cartons are in the Lexington Press warehouse awaiting distribution to the schools (Mr Cobb is awaiting instructions from Mr Poehler about distribution ) Important Guests Mrs Litchfield reuorts that regrets have been sent by the Governor of Maine and U S Be- presentative, Thomas P O 'Neill, Jr , that their cannot come to Lexington on April 19 Bands The Black Barons Drum and Bugle Corps (64 youngsters) have requested an invitation to participate They request a ii;l"5 i 'nintion plus transportation ) (The price seemed high to the Committee The letter will be held until more bands to which invitations have been sent have replied The Saugus DeMolay Band and the St Mary' s Annunciators Band are among those which have not been heard from ) A li 't of High School Bands which have accepted invita- tions has been sent to the LH S Student Council so that plans can be formulated for the after-parade reception 31.0 The Amvets are interested in participating and have requested more information (The V F W will be hosts to the Amvets if t ley come to Lexington ) Floats : Mr Bongiorno reported that 1'i fio, t applica- tions are in Poem Copies of thr poem, "The Minute Man Spea -s" by Norton Tuttle Hood were given to each Committee member Mr Hood suggests that the poem, attractively encased in an envelope, be used as a place card at each place at the April 19 luncheon (The Committee approved of the idea and VOTED that Mr Hood be invited to attend the luncheon ) Lexington Guides : Mrs Litchfield and Mr Cobb re- ported that they had ordered 1000 copies of the map which had b-en prepared by the Lexington Guides Assoc- iation from the Lexington Press The narrative which they had written will be printed on the reverse side of the paper Tile cost is ;x;26 50 Miscellaneous 1 Mr Sumner reported that the Hayden Twirlers will participate in both the morning and afternoon parades 2 Mr Bongiorno will invite the V F W State Commander Raymond O 'Brien to march with the First Division 3 Mr Gustin turned over to the Secretary some letters, pamphlets and other Celebrations Committee material which has been stored at his house Georgia H Williams, Recording Secretary
