TOWN CFLFBRATIOMS COMMITTEE
( March 17, 1960
The twenty-first meeting of the 1959- '60 Town
Celebrations Committee was held in the Town Office
Building at 8 00 p m Present were Mrs Litchfield,
Mrs Williams , imrs Pullen and Messrs Cole , Cobb,
Howard and Douelass
Booklet : Mrs Pullen reported for Mr Cronin that he
had written and mailed a letter on March 16 to the
Superintendent of Documents, Washington, D C , asking
for forms for copyrighting the booklet which Mrs
Pullen and Mr Cobb wrote
Mr Cobb will inquire as to the number of pupils in
each school, and the method of distribution for the
booklets
Bands and Marching Units
1 Mr Cole had conversed with the representative
of the Sons of Union Veterans ' Bend and had ey.p] ained
the Committee' s position in not inviting the band to
participate
2 Ft Deve s U S Army Band of 30 members will
participate (Lunch must be provided for them ) The
Ft Devens marching unit will not be available
3 Gardiner High School Band will participate •
L Clan MacPherson Banc had received the Committee
letter offering it $135 instead of the $165 donation
of last year VOTED That ClantfacPherson Band be
offered 3150 with a minimum of 1L men stipulated
r The Lexington Policewomen ' s Association will
be invited to participate
Floats Mr Cole had rec ived a letter from the Massa-
chusetts Rescue Service A float application was
included in the letter, and first aid Facilities will
be supplied by the Rescue Service
Important Guests : (Mrs Litchfield reported )
I Genera] Loren G McCollum, Lawrence G Hanscom
Field, regrets that he will hot be able to come to
Lexington on Patriots ' Day
2 Mr Mark Bortman will sp ak in Ccncord on
Fatbriots ' Day and hopes to come to Lexin, ton for part
of the day (It was moved that the letter be put on
file )
The Governors of Conn and H I re:'ret that they
will not he present

4 Dr MacDonald of Concord had reported that the
Ambassador of Pakistan will be in Concord on Patriots'
Day and wondered whether or not Lexington would like
to have him attend some of its festivities
Lady Lexington Mr Gustin presented an outline for a
letter from Lady Lexington" to the "I 've Got a Secret"
television program (Mr Howard moved that the concepts
contained in the letter, with the exception of that
portion which has to do with fund raising, be -;rafted
on Committee stationery over the signature of the
Chairman and be sent to the "I've Got A Secret" program )
Mrs Pullen reported that the Prom-Manaders request
names of Committee members who plan to attend their
bell at which Lady Lexington-1960 will be chosen so
that the Committee members may be properly recognized
(Mr Cole, Mr Howard and Mr Douglass expect to attend )
Mr Colby helly had requested that the Committee ask
Mr Streeter Stuart to cover the Prom-Manders' Birth-
day Ball for television
The Boston Herald will be contacted in connection with
"Lady Lemington's" portrait being used on the cover of
its rotogravure section before April 19
Publicity Mrs Pullen outlined the following plans for
publicity :
March 17, 1960 Lexington Minute Man newspaper issue
1 Mr Cronin' s being named Chief Marshal of 1960
parade
March 24, 1960 issue of Minute Man newspaper:
1 Prom-Manaders° Ball and election of their
Queen (Lady Lexington-1960)
March 31, 1960 issue of Minute Man newspaper
A 1 Presentation of 6 boolrlets to Cary Library
on March 25 at 3 00 p m
April 7, 1960 issue of Minute Man newspaper:
1 Presentation of booklets to school libraries
2 Booklet reviewed in special Spring supple-
ment of Minute Man newspaper
3 Ball game between Lexington and Concord
Road race
4 Sunrise Parade roster
5 Formal portrait of "Lady Lexington-l960) by
Leigh Jones
6 Honored guests

Lexine-ton Guides : Mr Douglass had inquired about rental
of costumes for the Guides VOTED That 4 costumes
will be rented for $28 , each costing $7 ) (Mr Douglass
will be the Committee liaison with the Guides )

The Guides have made a map of the battle green area
and have written a resume of the work of the Guides
Association VOTED That Mr Comb will procure 1000
copies of the Guides ' map to be printed on offset
press, provided that the cost does not excee $25
Reception and Luncheon Mr Douglass reported that
plans for the reception are complete
Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Williams and Mr Howard will
meet wits mana "ers Or the liattiegreen inn restaurant
this week to plan the menu for the luncheon
Miscellaneous :
1 Paul Revere dish towel souvenirs have been
received
2 Navoy Restaurant will be contacted
Program of the day, April 19, has been sent to
Boston
4 Mr Cronin had wondered whether or not a,
transistor powered speaker such as the
one used for the Town Meeting Members '
recent tour might be used on Patriots '
Day thus saving the cost of rental of a

speaker system from Exec-U-Tone (Some Committee
members felt that the sound would not he loud enough )
