TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
March 3, 1960
The nineteenth meeting of the 1959-'60 Town Celebra-
tions Committee was held in the Selectmen 's Room of
the Town Office Building at 8 00 p.m Present were
Mrs Williams, Mrs Litchfield, and Messrs Cole,
Cobb and Bongiorno Also present were Dr Francis
C McDonald of the Concord Committee on Pu'qic Cere-
monies and Celebrations, Mr Donald Guiler of the
Lexington Minute Men's Organization and 2 members of
the Lexington League of Women Voters (observers )
Concord : Dr McDonald discussed with the Committee APRIL 19
plans for Concord's sharing with Lexington the cost of
transportation and lunch for the Navy Band which will
participate in both towns ' parades (The cost will be
shared by both towns on an equal basis it was agreed )
Dr McDonald suggested that there be a ceremony on
Patriots ' Day at which the Concord Boy Scouts would
make a presentation to the Lexington Boy Scouts in
memory of Captain Parker (Details of time and place
will be worked out )
Important Guests : General Harmon, President of Norwich
University had sent regrets that he will be in Washing-
ton and cannot accept the invitation to Lexington
Commandant of First Naval District, Rear Admiral Carl
F Espe and Mrs Espe sent a letter accepting the
invitation to be present The Admiral ' s Aide, Lt
Carrington, will be present, also

Ft Devens Brigadier General Thomas R Yancey of Ft
Devens ; General McCollum of Hanscom Field, Bedford
Airport and the 6 New England Governors An invita-
tion has been sent to Admiral Rowland of the Coast
Guard
Bands Bands which have accepted invitations to
participate were reviewed
There was discussion about a recent letter which was
sent by the Sons of Union Veterans (Mr Cole will
reply to the Sons of Union Veterans ' letter of Febr •
29, 1960 )

Amvets Post Mo 71 of Cambridge has requested an invite-
tion for its Band of 30 to 40 men to participate VOTED:
That a letter of invitation be sent to the Cambridge
Amvets Band offering a 1;50 donation to its band fund
plus transportation costs
Booklet A letter from Supt of Schools, Medi11 Bair,
stated that the schools will cooperate with the Committee
in the distribution of the booklet
Lexington Minute Men Mr Guiler reported that 125
members of the Centennial Legion are expected to
participate in this year' s parade Mr Guiler stated
that the Minute Men would be willing to accept addi-
tional hosting obligations (Grotto Oriental Band and
Clan MacPherson Band )
VOTED That ;;75 plus 15 (toward the expense of
hosting the additional bands ) be ivan to the Minute
Men's Organization
VFW Mr Bongiorno stated that the V F W would be
willing to be hosts to the Cambridge Amvets Band if
it accepts the invitation to come to Lexington
VOTaD That . 75 (the same donation as last year)
plus ;)15 (toward the expense of being hosts to the
Amvets Band ) would be iven to the V F W
Floats Mr Bonmi.orno reported that the Chamber of
Commerce float application blanks will be ready next
week
