HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-02-18-TCC-min.pdf 297 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE February 1', 1960 The eighteenth meeting of the 1959-'60 Town Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room of the Town Office Building at 8 :00 p m Present were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Williams and Messrs Cole, Cobb, Cronin, Howard and Douglass Mrs Arthur • Douglass was also present as an observer Important Guests : Mrs Litchfield. reported that APRIL 19 letters of invitation have been sent to Major General Ernest Harmon, President of Norwich University, and to Mr Turtelot, author of "William Diamond's Drum " Dance Mr Douglass announced that the Rotary Club is tentatively making plans for a dance which will be open to the public at Cary Hall on April 18 Bands and Drill Teams : 1 Mr Ray Lewis had received a letter from Clan Mac Pherson Kiltie Band which requested an invitation to come to Lexington this year (Last year Clan Mac Pherson Kiltie Band participated for x,165 which included e donation to its band fund and transportation coats. ) VOTED That a letter of invitation will. be sent to the Clan MacPherson Kiltie Band offering them P1.3K which will include a band fund donation and transportation costs The letter would stipulate that the number of participants should be kept as high as possible (The number of band members was small in 1959 ) 2 The Hanscom Field Air Base Marching Unit will be invited. again this year 3 A letter will be sent to the Mummers Group, James Durning String Band of Philadelphia, requesting in- formation as to the conditions under which it would consider participating in the Patriots ' Day parade 4 VOTED That a letter will be sent to the Civil Air Patrol Drill. Teem The letter will state that the Committee has a policy which stipulates that it does not pay for drill teams or marching units 5 A letter had been received from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War The letter asks that the Committee reconsider its band's request to come to Lexington this year (It was suggested that the Com- mittee respond to the letter to the effect that the Committee finds itself unable to change its decision as of its previous letter ) 298 VOTED That the Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War Band will not be invited Floats Hayden Center will not enter a float this year Camera Contest The Lexington High School Photography Club does not plan to sponsor a photographic contest thi year, Mr Cobb reported Booklet Mr Cobb reported that the booklet which records the history of the Patriots ' Day Celebrations was sent to the printer Tuesday Galley proofs will be ready by March 9 Page proofs will be ready a week later The booklet will be printed by the middle of March (The Committee has not yet receiveda reply from the Superintendent of Schools to its request that the booklet be distributed to the townspeople through the school children ) Georgia H Williams, Recording Secretary
