HomeMy WebLinkAbout1960-01-21-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 21 , 1960 The fourteenth meeting of the 1959-' 60 Town Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room of the Torn Office Bui] dinr at 9 : 2C p.m Er Cole, Chairman, welcomed Mr Gustin to the meeting• Mr Gustin was a former member of the Town Celebra- tions Committee Also present were : Mrs. Pullen, Williams, Litchfield, a''d Messrs Cole, Cobb, Cronin and Dn talass. Mr Gustin reported that he had heard Senator APRIL 19 0 E. Long (R Hawaii ) speak at a recent Lions ' Club banquet in Boston, and felt that it would be ap- propriate to invite him (a representative of the newest state) to visit Lexin ton as an honored guest on Patriots ' Day (The question of money for the Senator' s expenses for the trip was raised and it was felt that it would be difficult to finance the trip with Celebrations Committee funds Other alternatives were explored ) Yrs Edith Nnurse Rogers gas sent a letter of acceptance to her Invitation to visit Iexisgton on Patriots ' Day, 1960 Norwich University has sent a letter of acceptance Mrs Litchfield reported that Mrs. Lois Purnham will inves`inate the possibility of participation in the parade by the Girl Scout Drum Corps of the Thirties Mr Cronin recommended that Rep T P O 'Neil be invited to Lexin ton on Patriots ' Day in recognition of his efforts in creating a National Park for this area (The Committee agreed that he is deserving of an In- vitation ) VOTED Grand Marshal of the 1960 Afternoon Parade Lincoln P Cole, Jr Chief of Staff of the 1960 Afternoon Parade Cornelius P Cronin (There were six affirmative and one negative (Cole) votes ) VOTED Marshal of the 1960 Morning Parade l ! Cnrnelius P Cronin it 284 BOOKLET Lexington Press has submitted an estimate of expenses of $1047 00, not including cost of engravings, for the publishing of the booklet which records the history of April 19th Celebrations t419 00 of this amount has been paid to the printer out of 1959 Cele- brations Committee funds A balance of $626 00 will be due this year VOTED The remaining expenses for the booklet will be paid with funds from the 1960 Celebrations Committee budget and with interest from the Leroy Brown Fund which is available to the Committee for use in connection with Patriots ' Day Celebration expenses (Mr Cole will not go before the Appropriations Com- mittee in this connection ) Mrs Litchfield will send a lehter to Vedill Bair, Supt of Schools, requesting the School Commit- tee ' s cooperation in the distribution of the histori- - cal booklets (Committee represent=atives will be available to give a description of the books to the School Committee, if necessary ) Mrs. Pullen aid Mt Cobb outlined ways it Arhich the booklet cduld be publicized 1 Six copies could be presented to Mr Mason for Cary Library by Mrs Pullen and Mr Cobb 2 One copy could be presented to the Mass Historical Society 3 One copy could be presented to the Lexington Historical Society 4 One copy coup be sent to Mrs Edith Nourse Rogers who in turn might present it to the Library of Congress 5 One copy could be sent to the Lexington Minute Men' s Organization 6 One copy could be sent to the Boston Public Library 7 One copy could be sent to the Concord Public Library 8 Copies could be sent to the Lexington Senior and Junior High schools and/or the Social Studies Department 9 Excerpts could be printed in the Lexington Minute Man and Boston newspapers. PISCEL- For the January 28, 1960 Celebrations Committee LANEOUS meeting invitations will be sent to the representatives of the following Prom-Manaders (Ken Palmer, President. ) Student Council (John Adzigian, Faculty Advisor) P T A Council (Mr Collins) For the February 4, 1960 Celebrations Committee 285 meeting, representatives of the organizations (Roy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc ) which will participate in the morning parade will be invited Mr Cobb provided coffee for the meeting Georgia H Williams, Recording Secretary Li 286
