HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-11-12-TCC-min.pdf 269 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE November 12, 1959 The ninth meeting of the 1959-'60 Town Celebra- tions Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room of the Town Office Building at 8 :00 p.m. Present were Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Pullen and Messrs. Cole, Douglass, Cobb, end Cronin. Also present were Mr Bentley S. Hutchins and Commander Irving Macey, U.S.N. , Boston Navy Yard, a Lexington citizen who is interested in town operations Mr Cole read a letter from Mr Miller of the U N DAY ALBJCC in which he thanked members of the Committee for their attending the October 31 meeting of the Jewish Community Center when foreign students were their guests Mrs Pullen reported about a party given by the United. World. Federalists for all pupils who had entered the U.N. Essay Contest. Mr Wm Roger Greeley spoke about old Lexington About 100 were present. A letter was read which had been sent by the two high school faculty members who had accompanied the two essay crntest winners on their trip to New York. VOTED To pay Miss Helen McIntyre $24 19 for United Nations material used in her class at the high school Mr. Cole reported that Dean Edward K Graham of THANKS- B U had declined the invitation to be Thanksgiving GIVING speaker because of a previous engagement , but he would like to be invited again next year. Hancock Press will print the programs Mr Cole had spoken to Mrs Sanborn Brown, wife of M I.T. Professor Brown, about the possibility of her husband' s being Thanksgiving speaker. He is out of town Mr. Bongiorno, not present, had sent a report APRIL 19 on floats Mr Douglass spoke of the Historic Heritage project of the Jaycees and of their many- ideas . He will ask Mr. Frank Bateman, Chairman of the project, to attend the Dec. 3 meeting of the Committee 270 There was discussion about the Guest of Honor It was the consensus of the Committee that no speech be made by the honored guest Mrs Pullen and Mr Cobb were authorized to go before the Board of Selectmen in regard to the publish- ing of a booklet about April 19th Celebrations in Lex- ington The Committee felt that some of the expense of the booklet could be defrayed by using the Leroy Brown Fund MISCEL- Mr Cronin presented a gavel to Mr Cole It LANECUS was made from an elm from the Green Mr Hutchins presented 1958-59 Committee members with copies of the Boston Historic Sites Commission which had been promised to them last spring Georgia Williams, Recording Secretary
