HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-11-05-TCC-min.pdf 267 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE November 5, 1959 The eighth meeting of the 1959-'60 Town Celebra- tions Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room of the Town Office Building at 8 :00 p m Present were Mrs Litchfield, Williams, Pullen and Messrs Cole, Cobb, Cronin, Bongiorno, Douglass and Howard. The Celebrations Committee reviewed the United U.N WEEK Nations program for this year and felt that it went ac- cording to plan and recommended that a similar program be followed next year At a party given for foreign students visiting Lexington, the Celebrations Committee was represented by Mr & Mrs Lincoln P Cole, Jr , Mrs Gerald Litch- field, Mrs Sidney B Williams, Mr Donald Cobb, and Mr William Bongiorno The party was given by the A L B Jewish Community Center Parker School has made a special request to the Committee that it be considered as the next site for the planting of a United Nations tree Mrs Pullen felt that the new William Diamond Junior High School would be a more appropriate site for the tree planting (The Committee postponed the decision until a later meeting ) Mr Cole reported that Dean Edward K Graham of THANKS- the B U. Graduate School will be pleased to be the GIVING Thanksgiving Service speaker if November 22 is open on his calendar Mr Cole will know by tomorrow. Rev Henry Clark of Hancock Congregational Church will be pleased to Five the Invocation but men- tioned that he may have to leave before the end of the service to attend a 9 :00 p m meeting which he has al- ready scheduled Thanksgiving Service program was reviewed and awaits the addition of the speaker' s name for printing. A letter should go to the Council of Churches requesting that 10 ushers for the Thanksgiving Service be supplied by the Council. Temple Isaiah and the Jewish Community Center will supply 4 additional ushers For next week' s Lexington Minute Man, Mrs Pullen plans an article announcing that there will be the third annual Thanksgiving service on November 22 268 APRIL 19 Acceptances have been received from the bands of Maynard and Reading High Schools r^` Needham and Belmont High Schools have sent regrets that they cannot participate The meeting adjourned at 8 :50 p m Georgia Williams, ecording Secretary
