HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-10-29-TCC-min.pdf 265 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE October 29, 1959 The seventh meeting of the 1959-'60 Town Celebra- tions Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room of the Town Office Building at 8 :00 p.m. Present were : Mrs Williams, Mrs Litchfield and Messrs Cole, Cobb, Howard , Bongiorno and Douglass At Fiske School, during the United Nations ' Day U N DAY observance, Douglas Stewart, a pupil, had presented a United Nations ' folder to Mr Cole (A letter of ap- preciation should be sent to Douglas Stewart ) 1 Mr Cole mentioned that no speaker has been THANKS- obtained for the Thanksgiving Service GIVING 2 Mrs Litchfield has written a letter to Rev Henry Clark in regard to his giving the Invocation at the Thanksgiving Service 3 When programs are printed, copies should be sent to the Lexington Clergy 4 Carnations should be ordered for the ushers 1 The Independent Hose Co of rrrederick, Md , APRIL 19 is willing to participate in the parade if overnight accomdations are provided (A letter should be written to Mrs Helen Maddox of Frederick, Md. , to ascertain the number of participants who would expect accomoda- tions ) 2 The Chairman of the Board of Selectmen had sent a letter concerning the Chamni_onshin C A P Drill Team which is made up of 16 to 39 people who would like to participate in the parade for a fee (It was voted that the letter be tabled for the present ) 3 Mrs Litchfield will send a letter of invita- tion to the Mansfield Hornet Band 4 Mr Cole had discussed suggestions for al- leviating traffic problems in a meeting with Chief Rycroft 5 Mr. Cobb suggested that a letter of informa- 1 tion be sent to Mr Mark Bortman who, at a Committee meeting in the spring, had expressed an interest in I helping the Committee with its plans for April 19 The letter should mention that the Committee meets weekly and welcomes suggestions 266 6 A letter has been received from the First Navel District in regard to its band participating in Lexington, April 19 At the proper time they will welcome a letter inviting the band to participate in the parade 7 Mr Cole had received a letter from someone in N.H. who has costumes and equipment for pageants for rent In this connection, Mr Cobb mentioned that town criers would be effective 8 A representative of the Lexington Guides Association which has 17 members who are past and present Lexington Guides, had reported to Mr Cobb that it is the consensus of its members that much of the significance of Patriots Day is lost in the activity of the day ( It was suggested that the Lex- ington Guides Association should be invited to a future meeting of the Committee ) 9 Mr Bongiorno reported that the Rotary Club may enter a float in 1960 MISCEL- Mr Cole reported that he had presented the LANEOUS Celebrations Committee Budget to the Board of Select- men He will go before the Appropriations Committee with the budget on November 30 The meeting adjourned at 9 :15 p m Georgia H Williams, Recording Secretary
