TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 28, 1959
The thirtieth meeting of the 1958-59 Town Cele-
brations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room
of the Town Office Building on May 28, 1959 at 8 00
p.m Present were Messrs Gustin, Hutchins , Cronin,
Cobb, Cole; Mesdames Litchfield, Pullen and Williams
Mr Gustin reviewed events of the year and
policies which have been formulated by the Committee
He suggested that there should be a Celebrations Com-
mittee calendar with a separate page for each week of
the calendar This would be helpful for making plans
for the year
The Rotary Club will underwrite the expenses of
a New York trip for U N Essay Contest winners and UNITED NATIONS
their chaperone as it has done in the past. Mrs Pullen DAY
suggested that other organizations which. have contri-
buted to expenses of the trip in the past should be in-
vited to a Committee Meeting to discuss plans for the
United Nations Essay Contest
Fiske School will be the site for the planting
of the 1959 United Nations tree
A messenger from the League of Women Voters
brought the 1959 United Nations Day Contest theme to
the Committee meeting It was decided that the theme
should be turned over tc Miss McIntyre for suggestions
and comments
Mr Cobb will reserve the High School Auditorium
for the evening of November 22, 1959 for the Thanks- THANKSGIVING

Mrs Sandberger will again be in charge of the
music for the service
A theme for Patriots ' Day 1960 was discussed.
It was mentioned that an appropriate theme for Patriots ' PATRIOTS'
Day should be chosen each year DAY
Patriots ' Day should remain an adult celebra-
tion Children should participate in all events of the
day but the day should not become a children' s holiday
The people of Lexington should be encouraged to
participate in the Patriots' Day celebration The Town �
Celebrations Committee should not purchase a celebra-
tion for the people

Mr Gustin named June eleventh as the final meet-
ing
