HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-05-21-TCC-min.pdf 243 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE May 21, 1959 The twenty-ninth meeting of the Town Celebra- tions Committee was held in the Selectmen ' s Room , Town Office Building on May 21, 1959 at 8 00 p.m Present were Messrs Gustin, Hutchins, Bongiorno, Cole, Cobb; Mesdames Pullen and Williams Also present was Mrs Roger Kaufman, United Nations Essay Contest Chairman for League of Women Voters of Lexington Mr Gustin explained the background of the United Nations Essay Contest to Mrs Kaufman UNITED NATIONS Mrs Kaufman stated that the League of Women DAY CONTEST Voters will supply a United Nations Essay Contest topic and a bibliography to the High. School and to Cary Library It is hoped that the students will do research during the summer The contest will be held in the Fall under the supervision of Miss McIntyre The League of Women Voters and the Celebrations Com- mittee will make suggestions to the Assembly Committee of the Student Council that there be a High School assembly devoted to United Nations Day at which time prizes could be awarded and the winning essays could be read (Mrs Pullen and Mrs Kaufman will visit the High School in the Fall ) "Describe the world a member of the Lexington High School class of 1970 will face if there is no arms TOPIC control" Mr Cobb suggested the qualifying statement Ana show how factors or agencies unat exist today might have been utilized to change this world picture " Mr Cobb will apply for a United Nations Day assembly at the High. School for October twenty-third A letter has gone out from the Town Celebrations Committee to all organizations of the town suggesting that recognition of United Nations Day be made in an October meeting V F W Post 3007 submitted a bill for $125 00 MISCEL- to the Celebrations Committee to cover expenses for LANEOUS entertaining several extra drill teams and a band at its reception It was voted that the Celebrations VOTE Li Committee will send $75 00 as originally promised ) 244 Mr Gustin reviewed other bills A bill for cleaning old flags used on the Common and buying new fl ones will be submitted to the Committee Monday, May twenty-fifth, at )+ 30, at Cary Hall, has been set as the time for the replacement of the 1958 "Lady Lexington" photograph with. the 1959 one Georgia Williams Recording Secretary
