TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
May 7, 1959
The twenty-seventh meeting of the 1956-59
Town Celebrations Committee was held in the Select-
men' s Room of the Town Office Building on May 7,
1959 at 8 00 p.m Present were Messrs Gustin,
Hutchins, Bongiorno, Cole, Cobb, Cronin; Mesdames
Litchfield, Pullen, Williams
Also present was Mrs Cheever
The Town Clerk requests that written notices of NOTICES
proposed Town Celebrations Committee meetings be sant OF
to him in advance of the meetings ( Mrs Litchfield MEETINGS
will send the notices )
The Committee approved bills which had been
submitted to the Committee for payment ( It was BILLS
noted that transportation costs are increasing con-
siderably eachyear and, in some instances , the par-
ticipants should be able to pay their own transporta-
tion costs )
Mr Hutchins reported that he had met with Mr NATIONAL
Bortman, President of the Boston National Historic HISTORIC
Sites Commission He hopes that Mr Bortman will SITES
attend a Celebrations Committee meeting in the near COMMISSION
future (Mrs Pullen read a feature article about
the Patriots ' Day Celebration which she had written
and will send to Mr Bortman )
Mr Hutchins reported an expression of appre-
ciation to the Committee from General Maurer
It was voted Mrs Pullen, Chairman, Mrs VO'1'h
Litchfield, Mrs Cheever, and Mrs Williams will com-
prise a committee which. will be in. charge of the hang-
ing of the photograph of "Lady Lexington 1959" in Cary
Hall Mary Ann Sainato (Lady Lexington 1958 ) , Patricia
Moran (Lady Lexington 1959) and the Minute-man news-
paper photographer will be invited to be present on
this occasion
The following Celebrations Committee positions VOTE
were filled Corresponding Secretary, Mrs Litchfield;
Recording Secretary, Mrs Williams ; Public Information,
Mrs Pullen; Thanksgiving Chairman, Mr Cronin ( Other
positions will be filled after July first )
Mr Gustin took steps to set up a' calendar list-

ing dates by which certain details should be accomplished:

CALENDAR July first Invite honored guests for Thanksgiving and
Patriots ' Day
September first Line up commercial floats
September fifteenth High school bands, service bands,
Shriner' s band, Salvation Army band, (Wonder
band of Philadelphia) invitations
October Theme for floats from High. School ( deadline
November first )
November Open meeting on floats
January• ( first week) Invitations to marching units and
bands to participate
( second week) Early morning parade meeting
( third week) Deadline for parade roster
(fourth week) Plan reception, luncheon and re-
viewing stand
Meet with Student Council
February ( first week) Meet with Prom-Manaders
( second week) Floats meeting
( third week) Military units meeting
( fourth. week) Fire Commissioner
March ( first week) Police
( second week)
( third week)

( fifth week) Deadline for roster mailing Arrange
with Fire Chief for 3-3-3 signal to be given
more than once in case of inclement weather on
Patriot' s Day
Mrs Cheever was authorized to buy three additional
MISCEL- Minute Man pins Mr Cobb reported that some entries have
LANEOUS been submitted in the High School camera contest Two
prints ( at $3 00 each) of "Lady Lexington" are to be picked
up at "Zitso' s" Mr Cobb and Mrs Pullen will work on a
Patriots' Day program during the summer
It was voted that the Celebrations Committee send
VOTE letters to organizations suggesting that recognition be
given to United Nations Day in programs planned for Octo-
ber ( The Corresponding Secretary was authorized to
secure outside secretarial help in writing the letters )
The Committee members enjoyed refreshments which
were furnished by Mr Gustin
