TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
January 29, 1959
The thirteenth. meeting of the 1958-59 Town
Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s
Room of the Town Office Building on January 29,
1959 at 8 00 p.m Present were Messrs Gustin,
Hutchins, Cole and Cobb; Mesdames Litchfield,
Williams, and Pullen
Also present were Mrs Cheever, former member
of the Town Celebrations Committee, Nancy Baird and
John Dwyer ( representatives of the Student Council of
Lexington High School)
Mr Gustin discussed withthe representatives STUDENT
the details of food, reservation for the high school COUNCIL
cafeteria, etc , in connection with the Lexington
high. school students ' being hosts after the parade
to high school bands participating in the parade
The Student Council is authorized to spend up to one
hundred dollars of Town Celebrations Committee funds
for expenses in this connection Plans should be
made for entertaining about four hundred band per-
sonn.el The Student Council is invited to attend
i j future Town Celebrations Committee meetings if they
have suggestions or recommendations which they would
like to make to the Committee
1 Lexington Inn (Mr Innocent, Manager) the
dining room is now operated by "LaPetite Gourmet" ( Mr REPORT ON
O'Hara in charge) Mr Gustin was given banquet and RESTAURANTS
reception price lists Both seemed expensive
2 Carriage House Restaurant Genuinely inter-
ested. Would 1-ikote—be—asked—an-othe-r y-e-ar. Their-
new addition might not be ready by April 19th of this
year
3 Battle Green Inn Under construction
4 1775 House Mr Gustin was unable to see
the manager. However, there was some doubt that the
"1775 House" would be able to accommodate so large a
group
After hearing Mr Gustin' s report, the Com-
mittee strongly felt that steps should be taken to
reserve the Belfry Club for the luncheon and the re-
ception on April 20th and to hire Mrs Marie Muse,
caterer, for both occasions

Approximately fifty-six persons would attend
LUNCHEON They would include Town Celebrations Committee members
and their wives or husbands; the Selectmen and their
wives or husband; the Guest of Honor and his wife; the
Invited Guests (Military dignitaries; Mrs Edith. Nourse
Rogers, U S Congresswoman; the six New England Govern-
ores, wives and husbands of all of the above, and "Lady
Lexington" and her escort)
Approximately eighty-eight persons would attend
RECEPTION the reception They would include ( 1) All the people
who attended the luncheon ( except "Lady Lexington and
her escort who would go to the high school after the
parade to be present for the reception for young people
there) ( 2) The President of the Chamber of Commerce
and his wife ( 3) The Presidents of the service clubs
(Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions and Junior. Chamber of Commerce)
and their wives ( 4) The Parade Marshals and the,ir
Aides and their wives ( 5) The President of the Theater
Guild of the Arts and Crafts Society and her husband
( 6) The President of the League of Women Voters and her
husband
United States Senators Saltonstall and Kennedy
will be invited to be guests, and State Senator Madden
( a Lexington resident) wall be invited to be on the re-
viewing stand
Mr Hutchins suggested that tickets be issued to
REVIEWING people who are invited to be on the reviewing stands
STAND The Committee drew up the following list of people who
should be invited to be on the stand ( 1) "Lady Lexing-
ton" and her attendants; ( 2) Selectmen; ( 3) invited
guests; (4) Town Celebrations Committee and their
families; ( 5) past members of the Town Celebraticns Com-
mittee (Mr Poehler, Mrs Cheever, Mr Lewis of the
1957-58 Town Celebrations Committee) and their families;
( 6) the Chamber of Commerce float judges; ( 7) residents
of Lexington who held high state office ( State Senator
Madden)
Mr. Hutchins reported receiving the following
LETTERS letters ( 1) a letter from Fort Devens regarding a. letter
which they had received from Mr Rogers in connection
with the Lexington parade; ( 2) a letter from Tufts College
Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Drill Team accept-
ing the invitation to participate in the parade; ( 3) a
letter from the U S Marine Corps stating that a regular
Marine Staff ( one officer, eight enlisted men) is coming
to Lexington No band
Mrs Pullen, who was unable to attend the Committee
meeting last week, asked for a review of the discussion
of the Committee in connection with. the Junior Chamber of
Commerce outline of plans for a "Miss Lexington Contest "

The list of themes for April. 19th was reviewed
No decision was reached on a theme for the day
Mr Cobb suggested that invitations be issued
to additional high. school bands Some of the pre- BANDS
viously invited ones are unable to come The contigu-
ous towns - Arlington, Watertown, Winchester, Waltham,
and Woburn - were suggested
Next week ( 1) Mrs Biggs of the Theater Guild is
the T C C meetingas she is havinga
unable to attend
play tryout at that time ( 2) Mr Howard, President of
the Junior Chamber of Commerce, will be invited by Mrs
Litchfield to the meeting ( 3) Ken. Palmer, President of
the "Prom-Aanaders", is invited. (4.) Mrs Skinner
( Director of the Girls ' Division of Hayden Recreation
Center and a Director of the Prom-Manaders) will be in-
vited ( K) Mr Gustin will try to arrange a meeting,
outside of the Committee meeting, between Mrs Biggs of
the Theater Guild and Mr Howard of the Junior Chamber
of Commerce
