HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-12-11-TCC-min.pdf 177 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE December 11, 1958 The ninth meeting of the 1958-59 Town Celebra- tions Committee was held in the Conference Room of Cary Memorial Hall December 11, 1958 at 8 00 p.m Present were Messrs Gustin, Cobb, Cole , Hutchins, Dearborn; Mesdames Litchfield, Pullen and Williams Mr Gustin read a letter of appreciation from Marcia Fone and Dale Fisher, 1958 United Nations Contest winners He read a letter from Mr Poshler asking for additional information concerning Mrs Biggs ' request for use of the high school auditorium for a Theater Guild play in connection with the April 19th celebration Mr Cobb turned over to Mrs Pullen a letter from Miss McIntyre in which she thanked the Committee for U N TRIP asking her to chaperone the United. Nations Contest winners on their. New York trip She gave permission for this letter to be published in the newspaper Mr Gustin read a letter from H Stanley Cullington , Director of Music of First Congregational Church, Woburn He asked whether ci not the Norwich University Band will be asked to participate in the April 19th parade Mr Gustin read a letter from Norwich. University NORWICH They thanked Mrs Litchfield for her letter offering BAND to send to Norwich the ;200 Band fee which was not paid in the Spring. Mr Gustin announced the purchase of rope for sse in rapig L,1.�: the- crowds in LsxtiSLun venter aur- mon; FOE ing parades He purchased the rope in two separate lots 19th 235 feet of new one- inch rope, $47 00; 1000 fest of one one-eighth inch. rope, S115 00 - total $162 00 Mr Gustin recommended that $40 be allotted to Mrs Litchfield for secretarial expenses next year Mr Gustin will ask Town Meeting for ,4000 for the Town Celebrations Committee budget for 1959-60 Yr Cole will report to Mr Gustin the exact amount of the janitor' s fee for the Thanksgiving service Mrs Pullen suggested that on future Thanksgiving programs , notations should be made to indicate the times when the congregation should stand Mr. Cole suggested lthat the Minute Men and other organizations might be in- vited to attend the Thanksgiving service as a group 178 Mrs Litchfield and Mr Cole suggested that Mr Ray Lewis and Mrs Wilbur Cheever be sent notices and minutes of Committee meetings from now until April 19th Mr Cromwell, a member of the Cary Lecture Com- mittee, came to the meeting in connection with the Com- mittee ' s having sought permission to hang a photograph of the 1958 "Lady Lexington" in Cary Hall Mr Cromwell explained that upon completion of Cary Hall the Trustees had turned over the building to the town Mr Cobb moved that the photograph of "Lady Lex- ington" should be hung in the Conference Room for one year At the end of the venr, within two weeks of April 19th at a suitable ceremony, the picture of the new 'Lady Lexington" will replace the former one, and the former picture will be given permanently to the retiring "Lady Lexington" It was so voted Mr Hutchins moved that the Belfry Club be hired for the after-parade reception, April 19th. Mr Gustin suggested that Mr Dearborn give thought to securing help for the reception from outside the Committee Mr Cobb reported that Miss McIntyre will have students submit themes for April nineteenth by January 15, 1959 Mr Gustin set January 8, 1959 as the next Com- mittee meeting date Georgia Williams Recording Secretary
