HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-10-30-TCC-min.pdf 171 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE October 30, 1958 The sixth meeting of the 1958-58 Town Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen's Room of the Town Office Building at 8 00 p.m Present were Messrs Gustin, Hutchins, Cole; Mes- dames Litchfield and Pullen Also present were Rabbi Judah L Stampher, Father McLeod and Rev Mr Taylor The Thanksgiving Service and ways of increasing attendance for it were discussed Suggestions for THANKS- next year were that there be massed choirs of all of GIVING the churches, Father McLeod suggested posters He plans to ask the Catholic youth, groups to make posters Places for holding the Thanksgiving Service were discussed Rabbi Stampher suggested a smaller place than the High School, such as the Hayden Center Mr Cole will look into the matter of using Hayden Center in the future 1 Mr Cole has been unable to contact Dr Hunt, the proposed speaker for the 1958 Thanksgiving Ser- vice He will pursue the matter further Other sug- gested possible speakers were Dr Sachar, President of Brandeis University; General Gavin; Dr Wessel, President of Tufts College; Dr Hixler, President of Colby College Rabbi Stampher felt that he would prefer that the Thanksgiving speaker be a civilian The Comma 'tee Sett taai, pictures should not be taken during the service The Thanksgiving program was discussed it was decided that the clergy giving the Invocation, Prayer, and Benediction should be selected in rotation This year, the Invocation will be given by Rabbi Stampher, the Prayer by Father McLeod, and the Benediction by Rev Taylor Men from each church. will usher Mrs Pullen reported that there were ample funds for the United Nations Essay Contest New York trip, and ESSAY TRIP that the students and Miss McIntyre will go tomorrow, October thirty-first Mr Gustin read a letter from the Selectmen 172 APPOINTMENT appointing Donald Cobb, 14. Hayes Lane, to replace Mr Poshler on the Committee . Mr Cobb teaches English at COBB the High School Mrs Biggs of the Arts and Crafts Theatre Guild plans to attend the November 13th Celebrations Com- mittee meeting Georgia Williams Recording Secretary
