TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
( October 9, 1958
The fourth meeting of the 1958-59 Town
Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s
Room of the Town Office Building at 8 00 p.m
Present were Messrs Hutchins, Rooney, Cole, Mes-
dames Pullen, Litchfield and Williams
Mrs Litchfield reported for Mr Gustin Mr
Warren will bring to the attention of the high school
pupils the tree which was planted at the high school
the Thanksgiving service; Mrs Sandberger is training
the high school Glee Club and will be in charge of
the music and organ for Thanksgiving; Mr Gustin sug-
gested that men in the Council of Churches or men from
the Town Celebrations Committee should usher at the
Thanksgiving service; Mr Gustin has shown the 1958
plaque to Mr Charles Davis of the Historic District
Commission and Mr Davis felt that a plaque like that
would be acceptable to the Commission for marking the
tree on Lexington Green The next hearing of the His-
toric District Commission will be on October twenty-
third.
Mr Rooney reported: the Lions Club will go
along with whatever the other service organizations ESSAY
plan to do in connection with financing the United TRIP
Nations Essay Contest trip Mr Rooney reported for
Mr Dearborn that the Rotary Club has approved financ-
ing the New York trip and will solicit the other or-
ganizations for their share
Mr. Cole reported that Mr George Wadsworth is
the contact person for the Council of Churches Mr THANKSGIVING
Cole reminded Mrs T a tnhfield_ to_ write- to the—Youth
Groups of the churches to invite them to come to the
Thanksgiving Community Service at the high school on
the evening of November twenty-third Mr Cole sug-
gested that three representatives of the Lexington
clergy be invited to a Committee meeting, soon, to help
formulate plans for the Thanksgiving service A repre-
sentative of the Jewish. Community Center, a Catholic
priest and a Protestant minister were mentioned as
possibilities
Mrs Pullen reported The United Nations Con-
test was conducted at the high school , today Nine- U N CONTEST
teen girls and nine boys participated; Miss McIntyre
will chaperone the winners to New York They will go

morning, October thirty-first There are reservations
for a twin room and a single room at Hotel Lexington
The return trip will be on Saturday night at 6 50 p.m
arriving in Boston at 7 55 p.m Approximate cost for
the trip is as follows

Mrs Pullen has publicity material and picture
of Mr Christopher Phillips, speaker on. the United.
Nations for the next Cary Lecture Mrs Pullen will
speak to Miss Morrison about Adams School U N cere-
mony publicity She will also inquire whether Miss
Morrison would like to have an outsider ( a Selectman,
a member of the School Committee or a Celebrations
Committee member) to participate
