HomeMy WebLinkAbout1958-03-06-TCC-min.pdf 1a7 7 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE March 6, 1958 The 24th meetingof the Town Celebrations Com- mittee was held at 8 1p.m , March 6, 1958 in the Conference Room, Cary Memorial Hall Present were Messrs Gustin, Rooney, Lewis, Cole, Poehler and Mesdames Pullen, Litchfield and Williams Also present were Chief of Police John Rycroft and Mr William Fitzgerald representing the Lexing- ton Fire Department The format of the parades was outlined Prob- lems of placement of parade divisions before the parade were discussed in an effort to keep the wait- ing units from congesting streets with. heavy traffic Police Chief Rycroft volunteered to see that the Common is roped off properly, and offered to se- POLICE cure the rope He reported that lunch. will be DEPARTMENT served to the policemen at police headquarters that day He hoped that M P ' s from Hanscom Field might be available to assist Lexington police that day, and would look into the matter Mr Fitzgerald, reported that seven fire chiefs from surrounding towns have accepted invitations to FIRE participate in the parade Five will send fire appar- DEPARTMENT atus and C D units The Committee moved, seconded and voted to send a letter to the Boston Fire Dept Bandmaster requesting that band' s participation The Lexington Fire Dept will serve refreshments to the visiting firemen at the fire station "All Americans Birth Record" was the title suggested by Mr Lewis for a book recording the names of people receiving an April 19th Certificate of Birth. Mrs Pullen reported that the Chamber of Com- merce will sponsor three trophies for floats in three FLOATS categories to be named by the Committee, one of which. should be Youth-Sponsored The Committee voted to accept the Chamber of Commerce offer, and named the other two categories, Community-Sponsored and Commerce- Sponsored, with, the stipulation that on commercially sponsored floats there should be not more than two iden- tifications and they should be no larger than fifteen square feet each. 138 In regard to the matter of the Student Council ' s f` being asked to begin handling the distribution of. the "Birth Certificates" right away, Mr Poehier suggested, and the Committee voted, that the Chairman process the matter through the Selectmen and the proper channels first Mr Cole agreed to make up an early morning parade format and to get it to the Boy Scouts and Gird. Scouts It was voted that any elementary children, not in youthgroups and who want to march in the early morning parade, should meet at Rowland Avenue at 7 15 a.m , where someone from the Stanley Hill Post of the American Legion will be there to be responsible for them The suggestion of Mr Jack Frost to add an additional slogan, "Rebirth of a Nation" to our program was turned down because of lack of space Mr Gustin reported that the Promenaders will have a float, and that their queen will be named "Lady Lexington" She and her court will attend the luncheon April 19th which will be planned by Eleanor Litchfield and Georgia Williams Mr Dearborn will be asked to plan the afternoon reception George H Williams Secretary
