Celebrations Committee was held at 8 15 p.m , February 27, 1958 in Estabrook Hall of Cary Memorial Hall Present Messrs Gustin, Hutchins, Lewis, Rooney, Cole; Mesdames Pullen, Litchfield and Williams. Also present were Mrs Christine Meyer, P REPRE- T A ; Mr Gordon Osgood, Grange; Mr Bill Ray, 4-H; SENTATIVES Mrs LaPorte, Girl Scouts; Mr Bill Fitzgerald, Lions Club; Mr Viano, Rotary Mr Gustin, Chairman, introduced Mr Jack YANKEE Frost who outlined plans to date for "Yankee Home- HOMECOMING coming 1958", a six-state promotional scheme, which will have its kick-off in Lexington. on April 19th Mr Gustin mentioned that Lexington was the LEXINGTON only town of that name at the time of the Revolu- ROOM tion There are twenty-one namesakes, and those towns have been asked to send a display whichcan be put in the Lexington. Room of the new library addition Mr Viano, representing Rotary, outlined ROTARY Rotarian plans for a ball to be held April 19th at Hayden Recreational Center with Ray Eberlets or- chestra providing the music Mr Gustin asked for a letter from Rotary giving details so that proper credit will be given those responsible The Celebrations Committee has written ask- PROMENADERS iiag Nc.�mI ivu of "ilio ri-uauoaiadoi o" fug I.liclr quuu i to be the focal point of the parade and be called "Lady Lexington" The Promenaders plan a ball for April 18th Another ball, restricted to the Centennial Legion will be held April 19th The Centennial Legion representative was pleased to hear that the Norwich University band will precede them in the parade A representative of the Royal Lancers band ROYAL LANCERS of Boston requested consideration by the Committee for hiring their band. Mr Gustin explained that we pay transportation costs, but do not hire bands At this point Mr Gustin outlined the function of 136 the Town Celebrations Committee Mr Frost mentioned that a children' s choir from Park Street Church would be willing to sing "America" if rental fee for their costumes were paid FLOATS The following organizations offered floats Lions Club, Senior Girl Scouts, 4-H, Grange, P T A Council Mr Rooney volunteered to visit organiza- tions which might be persuaded to enter a float Mr Gustin outlined the Committee 's definition of an appropriate float He expressed hope that the Fire Organization would participate Mr Fitzgerald said they would come if requested, and Mr Gustin duly re- quested that they come Mrs LaPorte asked if there were a plan for foreigners in Lexington to be in the parade in their native costumes The Committee knew of no such plan but felt it might be an idea to consider Georgia H Williams, Secretary
