, TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITThE
September 12, 1957
The fifth meeting of the Town. Celebrations
Committee was held in the Conference Room, Cary
Memorial Hall, September 12, 1957 at 8:15 p.m
All members were present, also Mr Leonard Foster
of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce and Mrs Paul
Hanson of the League of Women Voters
Minutes of the last meeting were read and
approved
Mr Poehler reported that the tree planted TREE
last U N Day has been cared for, and is in good
condition The plaque is still in the custodian' s
office Motion was made and seconded to have the
same type of program for this year, giving tree to
the Junior High School Motion scarried. Mrs
Cheever was asked to write Mr Smith, with copy to
Mr Norlin, that the committee had voted to honor
the Junior High School this year Committee wishes
to know of the plans to be made for the exercises,
alto type of tree desired.
Tentative list of events for April 19th were 19th OF
distributed by Mr Gustin APRIL
Miss Anderson still has Americanization
classes and it was suggested that she be given
supply of Bill of Rights for distribution.
Mr Poehler brought a projector, and showed
the committee the newly_purchneled -film s-trip, '�[an' s
Three Basic Needs "
Essay contest for U.N, Day was then discussed.
The League of Women Voters was asked to act as spon- ESSAY
soring group for this contest It is hoped the CONTEST
League and other groups will raise a sufficient amount
of money to take the winning boy and girl to the U N
Mrs Hanson will report back to her board, and will
tall; with Mr Warren after he has received letter from
Mrs Cheever, advising him of committee ' s recommen-
dations The League and Mr. Warren will work out de-
tails

to sponsoring breakfast on the 19th has not been re-
ceived by the committee, but Mr Foster told the com-

BREAKFAST mittee it would be sent, that the breakfast would be r
19th OF open to all, tickets sold, and that the financial
APRIL responsibility would rest with the Chamber of Commerce
Much time was spent discussing Yankee Home-
coming and Mr Frost' s plans for the kickoff in Lex-
ington the 19th. It was felt the committee should know
exact plans before committing Lexington to anything
which might be contrary to their ideas Motion was
then made and seconded that the theme for the 19th be
Hankee Homecoming - Let It Begin Here, subject to re-
port from Mr Foster., after conference with Mr Frost
Motion carried
