TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
September 5, 1957
The fourth meeting of the Town Celebrations
Committee was held in the Conference Room, Cary
Memorial Hall at 8 p.m September 5, 1957, withthe
following members present Messrs Poehler, Lewis,
Hutchins, Gustin and Rooney, Mesdames Cheever,
Litchfield, and Pullen
Minute of the last meeting were read by Mrs
Pullen, who had acted as secretary
Mr Rooney informed the committee he felt he ROONEY
could not continue as chairmani and his resignation
was accepted with regret Motion was made and RESIGNATION
seconded that Mr Gus tin be made chairman Mr AS CHAIRMAN
Gustin accepted and the motion was carried Other
appointments remain the same Mr Gustin then con-
ducted the meeting as chairman
A definite meeting night was decided upon MEETING
Thursdays seemed to be best for those present and NIGHTS
the committee will meet each week at 8 15 p.m
until further notice
Mr Lewis reported that Father Casey of St
Brigid' s church is willing to participate in a town-
wide Thanksgiving service, but as all, churches
could not be reached, no decision was made
Mr Rooney was asked to obtain a current list
of all organizations in Lexington
Plans for U N Day, Oct 2L , were discussed U N DAY
with Mr Poehler, chairman. The committee approved
purchase of a film strip, "Man' s Three Basic Needs",
cost $6, to be made available to all schools Mr
Poehier will bring projector to next meeting for
showing of film to committee members He will also
check tree planted last U N Day to see if placque
is placed. Mr Poehier will also ask Mr Warren to
ask the Student Council to appoint two of their
members to this committee
U N contest was suggested as possible means
of bringing publicity to U N Day If funds could
be found, a three day trip to the U N for the winning
boy and girl was mentioned After screening of essays
Mr Poehler suggested that the five
