LEXINGTON CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
October 3, 1956
The third meeting of the Celebrations Committee
was held on October 3 instead of 1 because of a
special Town Meeting on the 1st Those absent were
Albertine, Gagne, Hutchins, Lewis, Litchfield, Poehler
The three officers formed an executive committee meet-
ing with Mrs Pfaff and Joseph Donnelly from the High
School
Mr Gustin announced that Mrs Litchfield had
been appointed by the Board of Selectmen to take the PEIRCE
place of Mrs Williams and that she had consented to
being our secretary He .also told us that David Peirce
was to be the representative from the Chamber of Com-
merce and that notices of future meetings should be
sent to him.
Mrs Pfaff presented us with an order of the
literature and the books needed for her booth with the BOOKS
understanding that the Committee would be paid back
the 5250 for the Cookbooks Mr Gustin explained that
we had money left in our budget and saw no reason we
could not send for the order immediately after checking
with the Town Accountant and the Board of Selectmen
He felt that it would simplify matters if the $70 for
the Bookshelves was also added to that amount and the
$70 would be paid back later, too Mr Rooney was to
care for this
Joseph reported to us that Mr Smith wanted
sVy, Mr Warren a red leaf maple, and the students TREE
any tree in a bare triangle at the school They plan
to hold a U N assembly at school including talks from
the foreign students after which they could have a
tree planting ceremony Mr Gustin was to check with
both the Park Commissioner and the School Committee
Mrs Cheever reminded us that Mr Maloney of the Board
of Selectmen promised he would furnish us a tree when
the Committee should plan to need one Joseph was
excused and asked to return next week to talk with us
further
Mrs Cheever was asked to send for the tree
plaque right away, write a letter to the Board of
Selectmen about putting flags up on U N Day with one
a U N Flag at the Green In addition she was asked
56
to see that a notice reached the Minute-man about our
plans and that Rev Taylor be questioned as to the
meeting with the Church Council
After a long discussion about how to set up
and where to put the booth for Mrs Pfaff, it was
decided to use Mr Gustin' s tent at the Depot Square
He would arrange for permission and see that a table
could be set up in front of the tent
Mrs Cheever said that since no reply or word
had ever been received from Mr Albertine and since
Mr Gagne had not attended the last two meetings, the
Committee was now too small to have non-workers Mr
Gustin said he would check on the matter and contact
the Board of Selectmen
Meeting adjourned about 10 p.m with, plans to
meet in the Conference Room on October 10 and 17
