HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-10-03-TCC-min.pdf 55 LEXINGTON CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE October 3, 1956 The third meeting of the Celebrations Committee was held on October 3 instead of 1 because of a special Town Meeting on the 1st Those absent were Albertine, Gagne, Hutchins, Lewis, Litchfield, Poehler The three officers formed an executive committee meet- ing with Mrs Pfaff and Joseph Donnelly from the High School Mr Gustin announced that Mrs Litchfield had been appointed by the Board of Selectmen to take the PEIRCE place of Mrs Williams and that she had consented to being our secretary He .also told us that David Peirce was to be the representative from the Chamber of Com- merce and that notices of future meetings should be sent to him. Mrs Pfaff presented us with an order of the literature and the books needed for her booth with the BOOKS understanding that the Committee would be paid back the 5250 for the Cookbooks Mr Gustin explained that we had money left in our budget and saw no reason we could not send for the order immediately after checking with the Town Accountant and the Board of Selectmen He felt that it would simplify matters if the $70 for the Bookshelves was also added to that amount and the $70 would be paid back later, too Mr Rooney was to care for this Joseph reported to us that Mr Smith wanted sVy, Mr Warren a red leaf maple, and the students TREE any tree in a bare triangle at the school They plan to hold a U N assembly at school including talks from the foreign students after which they could have a tree planting ceremony Mr Gustin was to check with both the Park Commissioner and the School Committee Mrs Cheever reminded us that Mr Maloney of the Board of Selectmen promised he would furnish us a tree when the Committee should plan to need one Joseph was excused and asked to return next week to talk with us further Mrs Cheever was asked to send for the tree plaque right away, write a letter to the Board of Selectmen about putting flags up on U N Day with one a U N Flag at the Green In addition she was asked 56 to see that a notice reached the Minute-man about our plans and that Rev Taylor be questioned as to the meeting with the Church Council After a long discussion about how to set up and where to put the booth for Mrs Pfaff, it was decided to use Mr Gustin' s tent at the Depot Square He would arrange for permission and see that a table could be set up in front of the tent Mrs Cheever said that since no reply or word had ever been received from Mr Albertine and since Mr Gagne had not attended the last two meetings, the Committee was now too small to have non-workers Mr Gustin said he would check on the matter and contact the Board of Selectmen Meeting adjourned about 10 p.m with, plans to meet in the Conference Room on October 10 and 17 Edith B Cheever Temporary Secretary
