HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-03-12-TCC-min.pdf 37 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE March 12, 1956 The thirteenth regular meeting of the Town Celebrations Committee was held on the evening of March 12 in the American Legion Room with all members present except Mr Foster Mr Lewis reported that General MacArthur and his wife would not be able to come and be our guests of honor on April 19 After GUEST OF much discussion it was decided that Mr Lewis call HONOR Mrs . Rogers to ask for her help in finding a guest of honor for us, especially General Twining Mrs LaPorte came for the second visit to get final instructions for the early morning parade After reading Mr Belcher' s resignation Mr Lewis suggested that we invite Mrs LaPorte to take his place on the Committee It was so voted. Mr Lewis distributed copies of the schedule that he had made up as tentative. The Committee accepted it as tentative to become permanent Feports from various members included the following REPORTS OF COMMITTEES 1) Mr Sawyer - working on the stands and will take over the public address system, too 2) Mr. Gillespie - H S. bands accepted to date Woburn, Gloucester, Maynard, Needham, Lex- ington Junior and Senior 3) Mr Hutchins - finished invitations to military personnel will writenow_to-ROTC-and Band at University of Massachusetts I ) Mr Rooney - making plans for Fourth Division with maybe some teams onstilts and special bicycles for break in floats; also, will confer with Mr Lamont about how and where to go for cups or symbols for awards 5) Mrs Litchfield - will write to churches withbells right away 6) Mr Gustin - anxious for positive action of some kind for publicity. 7) Mrs Cheever - Acceptances so far 38 a. Military: Colonel Dunlop, Bedford Air Force Flight and Color Guard, Graves, '` Bedford Air Force Col .John S O'Brien ( for Herter) , Boston Major Gen Wm. H Harrison,Jr , Boston Otis Whitney offers State Police help (he can' t come) b Others Knights of Columbus, Lexington Aux. #11 - Lexington, Car Lexington, Red Cross, station wagon Civil Air Patrol, Somerville (will visit us April 10) Scouts in early morning parade c 4.th Div Rainbow Girls - Drill Team Lexington Grange - float 4-H boys and girls - float Fire department Lions Club - float Tandem Club - float Girl Scouts - float Boy Scouts - float League of Women Voters - float P T A ' s - combined to make one float (maybe) Under new business plans were made to publi- cize the day' s theme by running off a lot of copies of the suggestions for the It in "Let It Begin Here" and distributing them to organizations in town, es- pecially town meeting on March 19. We would have a boy and girl scout at the doors to hand to Town Meet- ing Members such copies Mrs Litchfield was asked to get in touch and thenwrite to these three town residents to act as judges for the float awards Mr Worthen, Mr Ripley, and Mrs Parsons. Mr Lewis asked Mrs Litchfield, Mr Gustin, and Mrs Cheever to meet on Wednesday evening, March 14, to make plans for Mr Lewis to answer any ques- tions on the budget at town meeting Mrs Cheever was asked to write Mr Mather, President of the University of Massachusetts to invite him to come to Lexington on April 19 L 39 Mr Lewis asked the Parade Roster Committee (Lewis, Rooney, Hutchins, Bashian, and Dearborn) to meet on Friday evening, March 16.
