TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE
February 28, 1956
The twelfth regular meeting of the Town Cele-
brations Committee was held on the evening of Feb-
ruary 28 in the American Legion Room All were
present except Belcher, Dearborn, Rooney, Gillespie,
and Poehler
Mrs Cheever called the meeting to order because
Mr Lewis was attending another meeting and would
arrive late The minutes were corrected to include
Williams and Robinson in attendance last meeting and
then accepted as printed.
Discussion centered about the floats : sugges-
tion that a safety engineer check on floats; points FLOATS
in judging the floats ; and qualifications for judges
Mr. Lewis arrived and introduced our guest of
the evening, Mr. Norton Hood of the Minute Men Mr NORTON
Hood had three suggestions to make to us to help us HOOD
in smoother running of the April 19 activities -
SUGGESTIONS
1) We should seek help from the police and
sea scouts in roping off the common for the arrival
of horses.
2) We should arrange with the Board of
Selectmen to greet Revere and Dawes.
3) We should be sure to have someone on hand
to receive dignitaries on April 19
Unaer new business Mr Gustin asked permis-
sion and received it for 1) the 5-mile road race put
on by the Lions Club, 2) the use of the loud speaker
to award prizes in the morning, and 3) the time to
present white tricorns hat
Mrs . Litchfield was voted assistant secretary
Mr Lewis said that he would formulate a list of
duties involving the Selectmen and present it to us
later
Matters needing attention soon are
1) Notify Park Department about the ringing DELEGATION
of the Belfry Bell (Lewis) OF
DUTIES
2) Write to the whistle man for blowing of

3) Ask churches with bells to ring at 6 30
a.m (Litchfield)
4) Inform Mr Smith about the flag raising
and lowering by janitors
5) Ask Post Office superintendent to decorate
the building
6) Have Mr Poehler arrange for the Adams
School to be open from 6 30 a m to 7 30 a.m and
from 12 m to 2 p.m and the Munroe school from 6 45
a.m to 7 45 a.m and from 12 m to 2 p.m
7) Check with Mr Adzigian about the baseball
game in the morning
8) Set up a tentative schedule for the day of
April 19 (Lewis)
Because of the warrant meeting to be held in
the Junior High School on March 13 it was voted to
hold our next meeting on March 12, Monday
