HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-01-31-TCC-min.pdf 31 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 31, 1956 Open Meeting The Open Meeting of the Town Celebrations Committee was held on the evening of January 31, 1956 in Estabrook Hall Mr Bertram Gustin presided in the absence of the Chairman, Mr Raymond Lewis There were 30 representatives of local organizations and 13 Committee members present Committee members absent Belcher, Dearborn, Lewis, and Rooney Mr Gustin opened the meeting with an explana- tion of the formation of the Town Celebrations Committee by the Board of Selectmen and introduced the members of the Committee He reviewed what had been considered in planning for the celebration of April 19 in Lexington and enlightened attending representatives about the theme, "Let It Begin Here " Mr Poehler, chairman of the sub-committee to study theme ideas, read some twenty suggestions of the interpretation of It in the theme Mr Bashian de- scribed briefly the Color Guard which used to be an excellent feature in the April 19 parade and which no longer is a youth program in Lexington. Mr Bateman spoke on plans by the Board of Selectmen for a perma- nent by-law committee in town Mr Gustin asked for suggestions from the repre- sentatives to help make April 19 a Lexington-partici- pated day of celebration After discussion from the floor it was agreed by those present that because of the shortness of time each representative present would go back to their respective organizations, explain the business of this Open Meeting, have suggestions and plans sent to or brought to the Town Celebrations Com- mittee which meets on the 2nd and Lith Tuesdays of each month in the American Legion Room of Cary Hall The following motions were voted on 1) Moved that a questionnaire be sent out to all town organizations from the Committee to ascertain what part each organization would be willing to play in the April 19 celebrations Motion lost 2) Moved that the Town Celebrations Committee be II 32 divided into seven sub-committees to personally r contact organizations listed under the seven headings of the Committeets mailing list Motion lost 3) Moved that those representatives present give the Town Celebrations Committee a vote of confidence in making plans for April 19 as they see fit Motion carried 4) Moved that publicity be given the Minute-man explain- ing the three ways of participation float, music or band, listing any regulations, and stating a dead-line date for such participation; and that re- prints of the article be sent to organizations not represented at this Open Meeting Motion carried There was discussion also on the budget item pertaining to the breakfast to be given the youth after the early morning parade Seven raised hands in favor; eleven against The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m Edith B Cheever, Secretary
