HomeMy WebLinkAbout1956-01-10-TCC-min.pdf 27 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE January 10, 1956 The ninthregular meeting of the Town Cele- brations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s Room on the evening of January 10. Nine members were present Lewis, Cheever, Frothingham, Sawyer, Foster, Bashian, Gillespie, Hutchins, and Williams. The meeting was called to order at 8 12 p.m Mrs Cheever distributed copies of the minutes of the December 13th meeting and lists of important data covered so far in the Committee Resignations were RESIGNA- heard from Mr Giroux and Mr Butler Mrs Cheever TIONS had a letter from the Board of Selectmen asking us to suggest people to take the place of those re- signed We gave Mr Lewis five names of people to contact and report to the Board Mr Gillespie reported that two of the eight bands which he had invited to march in our April 19 REPORT parade had refused It was agreed that he should ON BANDS invite two others and continue in that way in case of any other refusals Other matters discussed briefly were the return of the color guard and the awarding of contest prizes on April 19 Since Mr Gustin has been ill over a week, the letters to organizations were not written and REPORT ON the publicity for the Minute-man reached the press PUBLICITY too late for printing last week. It thus became necessary for us to postpone our open meeting from the 17th to the 31st of January Mr Lewis prom- ised he would check on these matters with. Mr Gustin and—see—thatm ublic-i he-p y-and LheleLLo,•o WC,C'C taken care of immediately Mr Lewis said that it would be thoughtful of us to invite the Chief of Police to visit with us as soon as we have a definite schedule for the day. The American Legion offered us the use of their room in Cary Hall for the second and fourth MEETING Tuesday evenings of each month It was voted to DATES accept the offer and Mrs Cheever was asked to write to the Board of Selectmen informing them of our meeting plans and asking them to be sure the room was open for us on the following January 24, February 14, February 28, March. 13, March 27, and April 10 28 Mr Lewis then read a letter from Mrs Nonnemaker of the League of Women Voters on participation or activity in their Freedom Agenda Program It was the feeling of those present that since we are a temporary committee working only on the April 19 celebrations under the direction of the Board of Selectmen, it would be impossible for us to take any part in this program. Mr Lewis stated that he would call Mrs Nonnemaker and explain our situation The meeting adjourned at 9:07 p.m Edith B. Cheever, Secretary L.
