Line Cole at 7 35 p m with the following members present Steve Foli.ti ,
Rudy Fobert, Rely Greeley,Mmtt Powers, and director Bob Tarlin Later
Miriam Butts and Steve Moore were in attendance
The minute of the last meeting were accented
Discussion centered on the question of what if anything should be given
to any or all marching units in the parade The Pennsylvania. Freedom
Band was a special guest of the Lex H1 School band and also geve a
concert . Mr Gillespie thought special consideration should be given
to them What eho .ld be the guidelines for which units should be given
a medal or other recognition? The Freedom Band would be an exception
since they give a concert The motion was made end seconded to give a
medal to each of the members of the Penn Freedom Band This motion
carried. After more diseus ion pre and con, Steve made the motion that
we not deviate from our original policy - the concept of not giving
elft, to marching unite, with the above exception This motion was
seconded end the motion was adopted
Reception for Lexin**tens and Delores Hidalgo - Line reported th.et the
150 budget allowed was exeeded by 135 The committee voted to approve
payment of the larger bill
School Bend Hat% - Don Gillespie had. nueationed Bob concerning band
hats and if LBC could help with the funding. Although LBC feels that
Lexington High Scheel Band is worth helping it also feels that the
hate de not seem apSreptiate for LBC funding.
Termination date for LBC was diecuseed Line feels that there has to
be a. vehicle available through the whole bicentennial period - either
through the whale comm. or through an executive comm. Bob would like to
see 100 or more items "buttoned up". The Bicentennial Corporation will
be in exietanee theeugh 1976 The motion was made and seconded that
we continue in some capacity through 1976 The motion carried
Y uth_De - otott reported-that-the-Talent to l-ed beet awl-I -re leied
and was "greet " The girls soccer teem did net show but the boys soccer
team wen against Concord 4 - 3. The Balloon at half time made an attempt
to ascend but the weather was tee windy The Rock Concert was fine and
t ere were no problems other than the band was too loud There were
between 300 and 400 tickets sold /
Bob said that thegb'H4- for the Presidential visitAWee 115 ,000 end hed
been approved by the Town Manager The Town may accept part of this bill -
it may not come out of LBC budget entirely
Arts and Culture - Miriam reported receipt of the $500 donation from
Kennecott Copper. This will go for either the Photographs or for an
exhibit planned for the Town of "Our Treasures " Miriam reminded LBC
that there are "nice things still on the calendar".
TCC joined LBC
Linc thanked everyone for a "fentaetic job" Then the critique of the
weekend activities began Although obviously some aspects of the
celebration will not be repeated next year, there are areas where we can
-2-
improve Patriots Day activities
Bicentennial Bell - 450 attended This attendance will probably not
be reached next year It was felt that it would be better to have the
Ball in Lexington if possible
epieleeSte-
Battle Re-enactment - Bob ea leha.t one major problem was with the Press
They did not stay in the nerved area so that they obstructed the view
of the people He feels that someone should be in charge of seeing
that the Press find their assigned area Some seats should be erovided
for special guests,. -`'
Youth Parade - Some felt that there was a time lag between the re-enact-
ment and the Youth Parade. TCC said that some marchers had trouble
getting back to the start of the Parade in time Time did allow for
breakfast fr e , , 6
i/1 VI otk. , of L / fe 1
Ceremonies on the Green - Ray said he thought there should be a rope
around area of ceremonies The plan to stop traffic around the Green
should be kept The PA system should be improved It was pointed out
that a faulty microphone was repaired after the morning ceremonies and
the PA system worked well after that
Parade -Minutemen seemed too far ahead No other gaps were noticed
The Chief Marshall should definbtely meet with officials from Concord
in the future as they did this year. High School parking did work but
was cramped They did admit came unite not on the Rester There
were few spectators on the Marrett Rd stretch The suggestion was made
that there be a printed parade rooter such as Concord has so that people
observing the parade and not on the reviewing stand can recognize the
units No parking on the Parade route should be continued. The walkie-
talkie units worked well Bob said he would suggest that the bleachers
be set up for senior citizens every year and also that folding chairs
be available for those not able to get up in the stands He also feels
that the wheelchir space should be roped off or possibly moved to the
site below the reviewing stand Seating in the reviewing stand was
haphazard but past experience has been that if seats are designated people
pay no attention to it The luncheon before the parade helps immeasurably
to control the reviewing stand Parade route chenge wee suggested -
