Minutes - February 12, 1975
Line (Joie opened the meeting at 7 45 p m with Steve Foliti ,
Dick Michelson, Tony Mancini , aecky Nussdorfer, Lois Brown, end
Bob Tarlin present Harold Handley joined the meeting lster
Postage Stamp - A Lexington-Lboncord Commemorative stamp will be
issued on April 19 and the Fostmaeter would like to have en im-
preesive ceremony Since that dey will be pretty congested, Line
feels the ceremony should be worked out in conjunction with another
event such as the morning narade Bob end Linc will talk it over
with Mr Walker
Minutes of the last meeting were accepted
Calendar - Miriam would like to see the sketches which Mr Parsons
did for the celender used again She will be hoping to hear ideer
from others 3500 Calenda.rr have been ordered.
Permanent Memorial - The proposal given to LBC at the last meeting
war brought before the Selectmen for approval The Ed of Sel will
accept the project when written presentation is prepared Dick will
see that this is done
Communications- Mr O 'Brien of NEt&T businere office was contacted
and the need for outride phones discussed, He suggested three at
the back of the visitors center and otherwise elms in windows of
stores or officed having inside phones Line said that he bad
arranged to have a van with phones for the day (April 19) Other
committee members felt there war a need for more outside phones pir-
haps at Stop and Shop or near the Police station
Facilities and Planning - Lois has been to Woodstock Vt to find out
how their referral system is working and what methods are used She
has put a proposal together which she has shown to the TN Lois,
Roly, Bob and Esther Arlen will get together to work out a program
Lois wanted, to know if it is agreeable that rates be ret lower than
motel This question end other policy agreements will be worked
out in the croup and brought back to LEC
Parking - Bob has agreements from all the churches that their parking
lots may be used during the summers of '75 and '76 LEC will provide
signs .
Exhibit- Bob has had. a request for a sum of money not to exeedd 4400
for the openinc exhibit at the Scottish Rites building This money
will be used for platforms and structures for exhibiting material
The motion was made to grant this money; seconded and passed
Invitations - The proofs for the formal invitation are in hand There
were shown to other members of LBC The invitation should be reedy
for mailing in two weeks It was noted that a letter has already
been submitted to the President by the Ed of Wel inviting him to
Lexington This letter was presented, on Dec 18, 1974 at the same
time as the pre- entation of the Lex Medal However, the invitations
sub-cos would like to s send Mr Ford one of the formal invitations
LEC agreed that this could be done There is also a need for some
State Dept. help in the problem of submitting the invitations to
the Queen of England; The President of France; the Premier of Canada;
and the President of Mexico or their ambassadors Lino is still
working on that
Rededication Committee- Plans are developing for a commemorative
town meeting with three warrant articles ; eight creative esaaya to
be reed aloud. LBC feels that this ceremony souffids lengthy and
perhaps choppy
Patriots Day Ball - Dick says that the Marist Hall is unavailable
on apri.l 12 so that the date now seemo to be the 17th
Youth Dav - Steve described the list of activities planned for
April 21 as follows Regular Lions Club road race 10 a m
Soccer game between Lex and Cone 2o.m.
GYPSO Band, concert - afternoon
Possibly Rock Concert
Dinner dance
GYPS° needs 800 The Youth Comm. will try to find financing for
this and if not successful may come back to LEO The Essay contest
has been established and will be announced in the Minuteman The judges
have not been selected
Business closing■ on holidays was a question being posed by the local
merchants LBC feels that the C of C can decide as they wish Most
likely decision is closed on Sat , end open on Mon
Bd. of Sal Meeting - Linc ennouneed that the Ed had voted unanimously
to eliminate the Ride of Paul Revere Bob gave his report to the
Ed of Sel The question of whether to have tickets for the U S Bi-
centennial Land was discussed The tense of the LBC was that tickets
be printed with 1000 as a maximum There was some dissent on the
over-printing but it wan voted to do so
Kennedy visit - Sen Ted Kennedy wants to talk to LBC and, other town
officials concerning any help he may be able to give us The meet-
ing will be held in Estabrook Hall at 4p m. on rriday Feb 14.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 45 p.m
