The meeting was called to order by the Chairman King Howard at 7 45 p m. Attending
the meeting were Alan Adams, Miriam Butts, Roly Greeley, Dick Michelson, Tony Mancini,
Becky Nussdorfer, Bob Tarlin and Bob Camp
Dick pointed out that the minutes should show that Tony made his suggestion for
Kiwania participation in regard to Mr Gillespie's project and the sentence mentioning
this should be inserted after the mention of Mr Gillespie 's project With this correc
tion, the minutes were accepted
Roly reported that he had spoken with Doris Pullen concerning the play "They Nobly
Dar'd" They were still hoping for financing Their figures which they presented to
LBC last May still hold LBC feels that a letter should go to Mr Marshall (director)
pointing out the possibility of funds at the Mass Bicentennial Comm. We know of no
other financing available LBC is willing to cooperate but cannot act as fund raiser
A copy of the letter which Bob will write will go to Doris
Bob asked LBC to criticise his working pppers on the April 19, 1975 crowd control
Dick said he definitely had holes to punch. He asked who established the area of hi-
density? Bob said that Chief Corr had given him the information. There was consider-
able discussion concerning the number of police or police"type" people needed, the
major arteries, and the time and length of the parade Bob will go over all these
questions with Chief Corf and Jim Lima in the near future Because the budget is due
in two weeks, these figures need to be refined as soon as possible
Mr William Mellbye of the Senior Citizens group joined the committee to exchange
information as to what his group can do and what the LBC is doing - particularly as
to the need s of the elderly He said that their membership is over 600 and that over 200
attend their meetings They plan trips and luncheons for the group They also have
very talented members in areas such as painting Roly asked if anyone in their group
might be interested in acting as "greeters" at the time of the bicentennial Mr Mellbye
said he thought they might Very well be There might be senior citizen reception centers
Often these people have fascinating experiences to relate to the visitors concerning the
history of the Town Bob said that there are tddo basic areas which might be of concern
to this group a. what might be done as a group - such as guides or receptionists and
b the individual talents, perhaps serving on sub-committees of LBC
Mr Mellbye also said that he had had inouiries about lodging and eating from out of town
groups This is one area where a Senior citizens sub committee would be helpful And
it was pointed out that because of the numbers of people expected on April 19, it might
be wise to discourage large bus-loads of SC on that day - they might not even be able to
get into town or once in ,`- to get out King asked Mr Mellbye if he would or if he would
designate someone who would be chairman of a Senior citizen sub-committee Mr Mellbye
will think it over He will be in touch with LBC He also may want to have a speaker
at one of their monthly meetings

King announced that Warren Butters had officially resigned. Roly thought that since
there were two members of the Historical Society Council already on the LBC, perhaps
there was no need to appoint another from the HS Dick wondered if it would be possible
to combine the job of Historian - have the same people that do it for HS do it for LBC
The Historical record, or the isolating of all records and material pertaining to the cele-
bration seems a single assignment Clarification of this should be made to Anne and Larry
who are doing the job for HS Roly will be responsible for working out a HS sub committee
King outlined the areas which need to be solidified into sub-committees
food and food service - King will be responsible
emporary cons ruc ion l o ustance)
Youth activities - (Frank Samuel)
Visitors Service - concerning lodging, volunteers file etc (Cof C) a perso n is
being considered for this
Communications - (Ray Barnes) liaison with Tel Co Bob also has someone in
mind who may be able to help in this
Media relations - (Jack Borden) (Lou Conrad, Charlie Whipple)
VIP Invitations - Steve, Becky, and Eleanor Litchfield
policy recommendations - who budget
The names in parenthesis are suggested for the job
December 21 is the deadline for warrant articles The dedication ceremonies on the
Green will require a good deal of planning, and may require as much logistical support as
Saturdays activities Discussion of this emphsiaed the need for a committee to work out
the details Roly suggested that Rev Handley be made responsible for this and perhaps
the committee be composed of a broad representation of clergymen with 2 or three laymen.
Roly also stressed his desire to have the town take an active part in supporting the re-
dedication. He wants the Town Meeting actively involved Dick said that the article
might be formed requesting authoriaation of Town Meeting to have LBC appoint a committee
for re-dedication ceremonies for April 20, 1975 Then at the 1975 Town Meeting have a
resolution declared - confirming the action of the committee
In regard to the invitation to the President it is recommended by the LBC that such
invitation be hand delivered
LBC suggested that the appointment of a permanent memorial Comm. be delayed for about
six months until the results of the sale of the medallion have started to come in.
There is a transportation meeting tomorrow at 1 30 p m. LBC members are urged to
attendMeeting adjourned at 10 30 p m.
Respectfully Submitted,
