Minutes - March 29, 1973
In the absence of King Howard, Dick Michelson called the meeting to order at 7 40 p.m
Members present were Fred James, Roland Greeley, Miriam Butts, Alan Adams, Dick Barnes,
Linc Cole, Tony Mancini and Becky Nussdorfer The minutes were approved with the suggestion
that the final draft of the resolution for the Town Meeting be included with today's
minutes The resolution is so included
First order of business was the report from the Arts and Culture Chairman, Miriam Butts
She had personally contacted the several arts groups in town including the Cary Lecture
Committee, Arts and Crafts, Masterworks Chorale, the High School music and arts departments
Garden Club, and the Scottish Rites facilities Her_idea for the celebration was that each
group would try to produce or provide one or two special treasures and that there would
be a booklet describing these treasures and where they would be found She hoped that
such projects would be of an on-going nature She will expect a letter from each group
out-lining their ideas and a schedule of dates assigned The committee expressed the
need for a calendar to enable LBC to ascertain the dates and clarify scheduling of events
Miriam felt that perhaps she had not included ethnic groups in her study so far Discus-
sion followed with several ideas as to how to include such groups Miriam feels that
'ost groups want to be assigned dates and suggested ideas Miriam also was very enthusiastic
about the Navy Steel Band which might be available for a performance during the bicentennial
She will follow up on information about this group LBC accepted her report with great
appreciation and praise It is enclosed with these minutes
There was some discussion of the role of the scientific community in the bicentennial
Linc Cole said he would be in touch with Tom Philips, president of Raytheon in this regard
April 25 was set aside for the meeting on the Tax free foundation
Dick Michelson proposed that LBC request a new member be appointed to LBC specificallu
from the Appropriations Committee Linc said that this was not possible but that a liaison
person could be assigned Linc will formalize this and ask that such a person attend the
next meeting of LBC
The meeting was adjourned at 9 p.m
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Nussdorfer
NOTE For the Record - The March 28th Town Meeting approved the resolution and voted to
