Mr Michelson had corrections for the last minutes 1. He would like it recorded that
he attended the last meeting 2 On the second page of the last minutes (November 29, 1972)
it was reported that a motion had been made making Mrs Murphy a member of the LBC It should
read that King Howard suggested that she be invited to become a member of the LBC in charge
of VIP accommodations After the corrections were made the minutes were approved
Dick said that King Howard would like a motion made that he, King, and Fred James draw
up a budget and submit it to the Selectmen for operating costs for the committee The
budget would be in the vicinity of $1200 The motion was made, seconded and approved.
There was a discussion of the theme as submitted by Alan Adams A letter from
Roly Greeley was read stating that he did not really like the theme He suggested "Birthplace
of American Liberty" This is to be discussed at the next meeting. Pat Wheatley passed around 1
a piece of stationary with the new design submitted by Mr Terlersky Most of the group liked
it but would like to see the same design done with blue and gold colors At that time there
was not a quorum present so a motion was made to postpone any decision. Approved
Tony Mancini reported on the Concord Foundation. He said Concord incorporated to plan
for and maintain a permanent memorial. Their corporation is mostly inactive. Tony feels
that if we are going to have a permanent memorial, or work with outside groups - as the Opera
Group, mementoes, etc - we should incorporate He feels that first we should decide where
we are going and what we are going to do If we have a permanent memorial it would not have
to be finished by 19/b Mr Michelson suggested that a discussion of what type of programs
we should concern ourselves with on a non-profit basis should be placed on the next agenda
Old Business - In regard to Mrs Murphy - King Howard would like the committee 's
approval to place Mrs Murphy in charge of a sub-committee for the accommodations of VIP's for
the Bicentennial The motion was made, seconded and approved
Dick Michelson reported that the LBC will go before the Appropriations Committee Monday
night, December 18, at 8 30 p m. to discuss funds for the 18 month budget The request on
the warrant will be for $50,000; sum is larger because of the 18 month budget He would
like the members of the committee to attend
Mrs Butts reported for Becky Nussdorfer who was absent, that the Selectmen's room will
be available any Thursday night at 8 p m. for our meetings Also rooms G-5 and G- 15
Mrs Butts stated that she would like to see some publicity about LBC in the local paper
Dick Michelson said that he does not think we have enough concrete ideas now to publicize them.
z
Rudy Fobert , said in a discussion he had that evening with some friends, that they feel
that we are just trying to get money to bring people into the town who will not be contributing
to the true meaning of the celebration. He feels that more publicity would correct this feeling
Mrs Ireland, Regional Director of the National Bicentennial arrived and was introduced
by Mr Michelson. She discussed what was being done by her group Feels that visitors will
come to Lexington whether we want them or not and we had better be prepared She said that the
U. S Travel Service at, their summer meeting had brought in all of their foreign representatives
to tell them about the Bicentennial Mr Fobert asked her how we can make the towns people
aware We are going to have a tremendous number of visitors - she suggested we print excerpts
from the centennial book and also said there is an excellent booklet put out by "House and
Garden" on tourism. She suggested a cable TV hookup to local town meetings as a residual
benefit to the town. Mr Michelson asked her if there was any chance of our getting Federal
Grants She feels that Lexington and Concord may have a chance for grants
Mr Sidloskus, Mass Director of the Bicentennial arrived and was introduced by Dick.
He said that for Lexington to qualify for state funds we must have plans for a lasting residual
memorial. His group is now approaching major corporation in the state for financial parti-
cipation so that they will not be enitrely dependent on state funds He said state is
going to print and sell an official guide book to raise money, suggested that Lexington do
the same Also suggested that a medallion be sold Dick said that last year the Chamber of
Commerce had 'contacted mints in regard to this but had no response The state is licensing
a plate to be made by the Spode China Co to be sold He also suggested a regional museum, and

now making a survey on access land along 495 for parking with bus trans into the towns The
State is looking into highspeed trains, buses etc for transportation into the towns He
