Minutes - September 27, 1972
Warren Butters called the meeting to order in the Legion Room at 7 10 P.M.
Also present were Dick Michelson,Dick Barnes, Tony Mancini, Doris Pullen, Bob Reynolds,
Rudolph Fobert, and Becky Nussdorfer The first item on the agenda was the report
from the Permanent Memorial Committee Bob Reynolds distributed a typed report which
is enclosed for those not attending The PM Committee had met about a week ago The
responses to the article and the returns of the coupons form the Minute Man had been
discussed at that time The PM Committee felt that it was the consensus of the Town
that it would not be feasible to build a museum and their suggestion is to form a
seperate committee to establish an "Historical Educational Center" which would be
financed by private funds There were very few worthwhile suggestions to come out of
the 72 replies to the Minute Man One that deserves serious attention is that which
suggests restoration of the Belfry and landscaping of the Harrington property grounds
Mr Fobert asked if they were aware the Rollin Robins could attempt to locate the
original building sites on the Green and those sites could be marked appropriately
This would bring a truer picture of the action on the Green in 1775 and of the people
who lived in Lexington at the time The actual borings and the research involved would
encourage participation by the students and residents of Lexington, Mr Fobert said
Mr Reynolds said he would be in touch with Mr Robins on this matter LBC felt that
item one of the report (the boulder) would not be suitable LBC accepted the report
after a discussion which showed disagreement with the idea of establishing another
committee for—the PM as—proposed iit paragraph2_and_3. Bnb—will try to have_a_final
report from his committee in the near future
LBC then heard from Doris Pullen She will have to ask for a leave of absence
from LBC due to the demands of her new job She said that she had consulted King
Howard about this and had suggested that Alan Adams be appointed to fill her position
until such time as she could return LBC accepted this decision with the deepest
regret that Doris will be unable to be with us The committee also felt very fortunate
in having such an accomplished person as Mr Adams to take over the Publicity and Public
Relations duties
Doris announced that the N E Regional Operal Company has decided to produce
"They Nobly Dar'd" in 1975 LBC voted to ask them to come to our meeting of October 25,
if that is convenient for them. Since Doris will be unable to fill a speaking engag-
ment on January 18, 1973, she asked that someone else from our committee fill her
-2-
commitment to the Collier Club of Hancock United Church of Christ on that evening
The letter which King drafted for the TCC and recised was then read by the members
of the committee Mr O'Connell has seen it and added no corrections Dick Michelson
suggested that the word "could" be substituted for the work "shall" at the top of page 2
This would change the tone of the letter to one of cooperation Other than that the
letter was accepted
Dick again brought up the subject of weekly meetings Since October 4 and 11 have
already been scheduled there would be no change in those dates but he suggested we go
back to the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays as our meeting days It was the consensus of those
present that this would be a good idea We could postpone those guests invited for the
18th to the 25th, especially since no guest are now scheduled for the 25th
The meeting adjourned at 8 P.M to attend the Historical Society meeting in Estabrook
Hall
Respectfully submitted,
