HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-09-13-LBC-min.pdf 15 LEXINGTON BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Pro Tem, Dick Michelson at 7 30 p m. The new members of the Committee were welcomed Dick Barnes was present to represent Dr Fobert Also present were Don Graham and Becky Nussdorfer The minutes of the last meeting.in. June were accepted with no corrections or additions The organizational chart and new member lists were distributed King Howard had drafted a letter to the TCC before he had to leave for Europe This letter was read by the members present Discussion brought out that the letter gave a rather harsh feeling - it was a bit brusque The Committee felt that they would like more time to consider it It was felt the Selectmen should define the responsi- bilities of the two Committees It was unanimously decided to postpone any action on this letter and to enclose copies with the minutes for those not present to study Other correspondence was noted by the secretary Capron Lighting Co , Inc of Needham Heights is experienced with sound and light shows and would like to discuss this idea with our committee Becky will contact them and invite a representative for a future meeting Also a letter from ARBC Deputy Executive Director Hall promising us information on the mini-bus leasing business was noted Such information has not arrived so Becky will contact Mr Hall concerning this Don Graham reported that Roland Greeley, had attended a meeting of the Planning Board primarily in regard to campgrounds in Lexington Don said that it was about this time that the Board had received the resignation of Alex Zaleski Since there has been no replacement for Mr Zaleski as yet, further action on this problem has been delayed Don also reported on the meeting with the military at Hanscom Field on August 14, 1972 He said that all branches of the service were represented and representa- tives from Lexington and Concord Attending from Lexington were Ray Barnes, Roland Greeley, Linc Cole, and Don Graham. The purpose of the meeting was to bring the military up to date as to what has been accomplished and to find out in what capacity they could be of service Enclosed is a copy of the minutes of this meeting Don felt that there was a genuine interest from the military both as to aid in planning and in the participation of military units in the ceremonies Don also reported on the progress of the Middlesex Bicentennial Liaison Committee He reviewed the origin of the committee for the benefit of the new members Organiza- tion, Staffing, and Financing are the primary concerns right now Some things will -2- have to be handled at the State level Police action beyond town borders will be nec- essary Tbwns are unable to provide sufficent staff There are avenues for Federal money which will be pursued Local matching of funds will be expected Needs should be defined as quickly as possible, so that financing can be established Town Meetings will be asked for funds to contribute to the regional group The next meeting of the MBLC is next Tuesday, September 19 in Burlington The MAPC will present a workable F proposal The Committee agreed that a meeting of LBC every week was going to be diffucult It was decided that the next meeting would be September 27, at 7 00 P M. and that Doris could report at that time (NOTE TIME) Warren Butters and Bob Reynolds could be heard then also The meeting would adjourn at 8 00 P.M in order that the members I could attend the Historical Society meeting which will feature David Little talking about the Centennial and Frank Sadlauskas on the Bicentennial If a member of the LBC finds he cannot make it to our meeting it would be appreciated if he would call Becky Respectfully submitted, Becky Nussdorfer, Secretary
