LEXINGTON
LEXINGTON BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE
Minutes - May 10, 1972
Dick Michelson brought the meeting to order at 7 40 p.m. King Howard was
out of town and Fred James was unable to attend Absent also were Ray Barnes,
Lincoln Cole, Doris Pullen, and Don Graham.
Roland Greeley asked who was empowered to make the appointments for the Public
Safety Director Dick and the committee felt that as the LBC organization chart
is set up only the Arts and Culture, School Relations, and Administrative positions
need be appointed by the Selectmen. Roland nominated James Lima as Director of
Public Safety and Alex Zaleski as Director of Outdoor Facilities The Committee
approved unanimously Roland will see that those two are properly advised as to
their appointment
Dick then made a point of clarification in regard to the misunderstanding
between the TCC and the Minute Men concerning the re-enactment on April 16 He
had a copy of the letter written by the Chairman of the Selectmen, Robert Cataldo,
to Lt Daigle on February 1, 1972 This letter is enclosed with the minutes
Dick also distributed copies of a speech by Richard Eaton which was given at the
Workshop '75 public hearing LBC should find this statement noteworthy It is
included with the minutes for those not present at the LBC meeting
Fred James notified Dick that he will hold his report until the meeting on
May 24th
Dick made a report of progress to date in finding a firm to mint a commemorative
coin He feels that there will be no possibility of a U.S minted coin but a
contract might be possible outside the country The Franklin Mint is too tied up
..1LL d..Isco. There-will-bra-Nati-on-al medal anti a..a.up unveiled-nu-July 4,
1972. He feels a souvenir medal which is not made of silver can be made very
reasonably He is still waiting for answers If Lexington has a souvenir coin,
there should be one design and any group thinking of producing any such article
should clear with this committee
The walking tour project is definitely feasible, Dick says It would be a
profitable undertaking There is a Florida outfit which has quoted a very reason-
able price on tapes Now, there has to be some attention given to the wording
and scope of the tapes Warren mentioned that there was a survey made of signicant
houses and areas in town- about eight years ago Becky will contact Georgia Williams
concerning this Perhaps Georgia could meet with us at the May 24th meeting

At this time, Miss Sophronia Camp arrived to inquire as to available infor-
mation for an article for Galley Features, a new group which hopes to publish
feature articles on a statewide basis She is going to do her article on the
Bicentennial plans of several towns LBC felt it was an excellent idea and that
the committee minutes and background materials are open for her to use
Adgenda at the next meeting, May 24, we will have a representative from the
State Bicentennial Commission and Ms Georgia Ireland of the U S Bicentennial
Commission. A report from Don Graham as to the progress of the Middlesex Planning
Committee will also be heard
The meeting was adjourned at 8 45 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Becky Nussdorfer, Secretary
