HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-02-09-LBC-min.pdf T. �- �r, „ .. .z)- Nfronnisigse4r44v' LEXINGTON BICENTENNIAL COMMITTEE Minutes--February 9, 1972 Fred James brought the meeting to order at 7 40 p m. in the Legion Room at Cary Hall Other members of the LBC present were Doris Pullen, Dick Michelson, Roland Greeley and Becky Nussdorfer Mr James introduced Bob Reynolds, chairman of the site committee Mr Reynolds presented his written report summarizing the first two meetings his committee had held, and bringing to the attention of LBC questions he feels are important in planning the committee's immediate tasks For those members of LBC who did not attend, this report is enclosed with these minutes After a brief discussion of these meetings, Mr Reynolds asked permission to expand his committee by adding the four people named in Item III of his report This was moved and passed by the LBC The Minute- men will appoint their own representatives The need for an attorney will be studied further Item IV was considered and it was decided, since the LBC will not officially have its appropriation until after the Town Meeting, the site committee should come back at that time with specific requests The item about parking at the Episcopal Church should be thoroughly studied The Church has not been approached by anyone on our committee or by the town and it was felt that this should be done very soon. Roland Greeley suggested we emphasize this fact to Mr O'Connell Dick Michelson made a motion that LBC include a memo to Mr O'Connell with todays minutes urging him to contact the appropriate persons in regard to the availability of land near the visitors center which they own In planning for 1975, we need to know if any of this property may be utilized for the celebration or for parking in connection with the Permanent Memorial The motion was passed. There was a discussion of a rumor that there might be a problem of having the town appropriate money or a building which will be used by the Historical Society This problem should be clarified. Roland volunteered to see Mr Legro in reference to this Mr Reynolds advised the LBC that his committee had made plans to visit the North Andover Historical Society Museum on Sunday, February 13 and to meet with Mr Tom Leavitt at 4 00 p m. that day for consultation Those able to go are to meet at 2 15 p.m. behind Michelson's store for the drive to the museum. Attention of LBC was then directed to the agenda for the meeting on the 17th of February in Estabrook Hall King will probably be away until the rr � , Minutes-February 9, 1972 --page 2 last minute There are twelve towns invited besides Concord and Lexington. Parking, mass transit, busing--all must be considered as regional problems The State Bicentennial Commission will be kept informed and as we understand, will coordinate schedules, parking and transportation routes A general agenda was drawn up with the focus on events on the 19th of April a Needs for special transportation b Expected status of routes 2 and 2A c Picnic and camping areas d Scheduling of events It was decided not to have coffee served at this meeting The head table will include from Concord Mr Finigan, Mr Flynn and for Lexington Mr O'Connell, Mr McSweeney, Mr Howard and Mrs Brown Themes for the Bicentennial were again considered. Also the idea of a 30 to 40 mile parade of floats using the theme These floats could be contributed by industries with the same quality as those in the Parade of Roses Such a parade could stretch through the towns on the route of Paul Revere Dick reported that he will write the explanation of the Articles for the Warrant which have been submitted by our committee for the Town Meeting Members Association information board The meeting was adjourned at 9 15 Respectfully submitted, Becky Nussd`o r, "40� Secretary
