HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-10-13-LBC-min.pdf LEXINGTON 1975 CELEBRATIONS Cu 1MITTEE Minutes October 13, L971 The organizational meeting of the Lexington 1975 Celebrations Committee met in the guard room of the police station at 7 30 P M October 13, 1971 Chairman Kingston Howard outlined the immediate and long range objectives of the Committee Responsibility of the Committee during Phase t or 1971-72 will be a general plan for the 1975 celebration for the Town of Lexington This plan will have to be presented to the Town Meeting in March 1972 complete with estimated total cost Lincoln Cole being pressed for time, gave a short report to the committee that the De Carlo Bill in the legislature was moving along with hope of passage in the near future This bill will allow towns to accumulate moneys for the 1975-76 celebrations over the next four years Mr Cole also stated that Rev Handley and Dr Howard Smith had been appointed to the State Bicentennial Committee The Town Manager, Walter O'Co'uiell joined the committee at 8 00 P M He outlined the job of the group He emphasized that the task was two-fold hard work and delegation of work which is properly that of the various organizations or committees The 1975 Committee he said must present its new requirements to the Town; it also must have a time table--urgency is required (See Mr 0 Connell ' s memorandum to the 'selectmen July 17 1970) There should be close liason with involved Town committees such as Traffic or the Planning Board The Committee should submit expenditures to the Selectmen, Mr O'Connell said After Mr O'Connell left, Warren Butters gave a report from the Historical Society Frederick L Rath, Vice-Director of the New York State Historical Association had been engaged as a consultant by the Lexington Society to help in planning the Society' s part in the celebration Copies of Mr Rath' s report are available for the members of the 1975 Celebrations Committee to read and a copy 2-- October 13, 19' of the "digest" of the report are included with these minutes The Historical Society recognizes three main points of emphasis heritage properties, and horizons Mr Butters noted that Federal funds are available for properties designated National Landmarks King Howard then outlined assignments for the members of this committee to facilitate our activities Fred James -- provide initial needs in stationery Ray Barnes -- investigate the design of the letterhead for permanent stationery Dick Michelson and ling Howard -- contact with C of C Dick Michelson -- Planning Board Doris Pullen -- photographer for the next meeting Dick Michelson noted that it is urgent to have a request in to the Town for an operating budget for 1971-1972, and 1972-1973 The Committee should estimate expenditures by November 10 Expenses include stamps, stationery, travel, communications, subcriptions, P 0 Box etc Suggestions were made up to $750 00 by members of the committee It was decided to let King Howard take the final figure for the request under consideration and report to the committee at the next meeting Doris Pullen made a motion to change the name of the committee to the Lexington Bicentenniel Commission The possibility that "Commission" entails certain legalities was discussed King Howard said he would look into this detail [f it is not possible to use the title of Commission, we would then elect to be known as the Lexington Bicentennial Committee Dick Michelson suggested a file of persons who have expressed interest in serving on the Committee or working with the members of the Committee 3-- October 13, �` It was decided to meet on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings at 7 30 P M. in the legion Room of Lary Hall Schedule tor uture meetings will be October 27 - Veterans organizations will be invited November 10 -- Civic organizations ( no meeting Nov 24) December 8 -- interest citizens (no meeting Dec 22) The meeting was adjourned a 9 15 P M.
