HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-04-01-ECC2-min 6:10 Chairman Joe Musacchia called the meeting to order Quorum present: Roger Borghesani, Doug Holmes, Joe Musacchia and Shawn Newell 6:20 Paul Chernick arrived 6:35 Alan Sherman arrived Shawn Newell gave us a detailed update on DPF’s activities regarding Lexington’s new Green Building Standards draft. • Several groups are involved in the planning sessions, including DPF, Architerra, Public Buildings Comm., Sustainable Lexington Comm., and our committee. • Harvard University’s standards are the basis for Lexington’s planning. Shawn presented two charts, comparing the features of Harvard’s Green BuildingStandards and the current draft of Lexington’s GBS. He described the draft as being “LEED v.4 + ERH (E= Energy, R= Resilience, H= Health)” • Following his presentation of the GBS, Shawn gave us a rough timeline for the further consideration of Lexington’s new GBS: Apr/May Draft reviewed by BB & TF \[? Not sure about these abbreviations\] mid-May/June GBS acceptance by DPF, ECC, SLC, PBC July Review by Town/Town Manager and Board of Selectmen ? Then to DPF & PBC, “in time for all new buildings” ? Then released to Engineering and Architerra • Shawn will email to ECC members a link to the Harvard GBS document. • At the May ECC meeting Shawn will have the “final” Lexington draft GBS ready for our review. NOTE: the date in May need to be adjusted to assure that most/all ECC members can be present. Extensive discussion followed Shawn’s presentation. Comment of most interest, from Paul Chernick: • Architerra seems to think we can do E + H for very little increase in cost. Definition of what is included in R, as well as costs, is still being discussed. Joe Musacchia asked whether there were any grants available to help with ERH. Shawn’s response was that timing with grants is difficult, as we are “moving very fast.” He added that a DOER grant last year paid for LED lighting in several schools. This year, he is applying for $250K for the schools, to replace all fluorescent tubes (T-5s) in hallways, gyms, etc; this might have a payback of only 8-12 months. The last discussions this evening dealt with forecasts of electricity costs in next few years. Both the demand charges as well as the kWh costs may increase. 7:23 Doug Holmes moved that we adjourn the meeting; seconded and approved by all. Acting Secretary, D. Holmes
