The third meeting of the Hunting Safety Committee was held at 7 00 P.M. in the
Selectmen's office Messrs Brown, Hayes and Ripley were present
A group of local hunters were invited to this meeting in order that the committee
could discuss the problems with them and also to enlist their aid in posting
various areas throughout the Town Atty Alfred Tropeano, Frank Parsons and
Richard Phelps and Charles Abbott were present
Atty Tropeano reviewed the new by-law in order to advise the committee of their
legal authority He stated that it would be within our power to notify Chief
Rycroft not to issue hunting permits on land which, in the judgment of the
committee, is not safe for hunting
With assistance from the hunters, we reviewed the list of property owners who
had given permits on their land during 1963 A large Town Map, which had been
prepared by the Engineering Dept , was used to view the acreage involved, the
boundaries and the proximity to dwellings This resulted in a partial list of
areas which will be declared unsafe for hunting in the future It was agreed
not to complete the list until the 1962 schedule of property owners who granted
permits has been reviewed.
Mr Brown reported that Mr Greeley from the Arlington Board of Selectmen felt !!
there would be no objection from his board should we wish to post the Great
Meadows for "No Hunting " He suggested that a formal request be made to his
Board in writing from the Lexington Board of Selectmen Mr Brown agreed to
take this up with the Board.
The Hunting Safety Committee agreed that "No Hunting" signs should be posted
on the Moreland Avenue School Site and the adjoining Tower Property, Willard Woods,
