HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-09-1964 September 9, 1964 The third meeting of the Hunting Safety Committee was held at 7 00 P.M. in the Selectmen's office Messrs Brown, Hayes and Ripley were present A group of local hunters were invited to this meeting in order that the committee could discuss the problems with them and also to enlist their aid in posting various areas throughout the Town Atty Alfred Tropeano, Frank Parsons and Richard Phelps and Charles Abbott were present Atty Tropeano reviewed the new by-law in order to advise the committee of their legal authority He stated that it would be within our power to notify Chief Rycroft not to issue hunting permits on land which, in the judgment of the committee, is not safe for hunting With assistance from the hunters, we reviewed the list of property owners who had given permits on their land during 1963 A large Town Map, which had been prepared by the Engineering Dept , was used to view the acreage involved, the boundaries and the proximity to dwellings This resulted in a partial list of areas which will be declared unsafe for hunting in the future It was agreed not to complete the list until the 1962 schedule of property owners who granted permits has been reviewed. Mr Brown reported that Mr Greeley from the Arlington Board of Selectmen felt !! there would be no objection from his board should we wish to post the Great Meadows for "No Hunting " He suggested that a formal request be made to his Board in writing from the Lexington Board of Selectmen Mr Brown agreed to take this up with the Board. The Hunting Safety Committee agreed that "No Hunting" signs should be posted on the Moreland Avenue School Site and the adjoining Tower Property, Willard Woods, 4 F cn 'un �. {lU Whipple Hill and the Great Meadows, Mr Brown agreed to request 50 signs from the Supt of Public Works Members of the Hunters Group and Mr Ripley agreed to contact a few of the property owners to ask their cooperation in limiting the number of permits to hunt their land and also to ask their permission to post warning signs on the boundaries of their property There being no further business, the meeting vas adjourned at 9 45 P.M The next meeting will be held September 17, 1964 at 7 00 P.M. in the Selectmen's Office Otis Brown, Jr c c Vin Hayes c c Adin Ripley c c Hazel Murray, Selectmen's Office
