StaffReportsandProgramUpdates:HemaliPatel reportedthattheSpringLuncheonisscheduledfor May23andprovidedanupdateonsummertrips(winetour,Bostonduckboattour,CastleIslandtrip) andthefourdaytriptoMontrealscheduledforSeptember.CharlotteRodgers welcomedChristine DeanastheincomingCommunityCenterdirector;statedthatsheneededvolunteerstohelpwithtable atDiscoveryDay(Saturday,May27,93);DanaHomeFoundationdidnotfundproposalforstudyofAge FriendlyCommunitybutdidfundtaxiprogram$2,500,vanforLexEat$2,500,dietian$5,000,and volunteercoordinator$5,000.ShesuggestedthatshemightperhapsseekfundingforpiecesoftheAge FriendlyCommunitystudy,suchas$18,000fortheneedsassessmentcomponent.Indiscussionitwas learnedthatLittletonandBedfordfinancedtheirAgeFriendlyCommunitystudiesthroughtheirTown Meetings.COAmembersencouragedCharlottetocontinuetoseekfundingforthevaluableAge FriendlyCommunitystudy.Chalotteindicatedthatthestudywouldbeoneofthedepartmentgoalsthat willbesubmittedinmidJune.ChristineDean introducedherselfandmentionedherpriorexperience withRecreationprogramsinDanversandBrookline.HarryMackay reportedthatFCOAhasselected twoofsixBrightIdeaproposalsforfunding:aliteraryprojectandhearingdevicesforsmallerrooms. TheCOAunanimouslyapprovedtheplansforBrightIdeas. DisabilityCommission:SeanGradyandJulieMillerfromtheDisabilityCommissionpresentedtheirdis satisfactionwiththeendorsementoftheadhoccommitteeonsidewalkselectionoflaidflatbricks.The DisabilityCommissionconsidersthatconcreteandbrickwouldbepreferabletotheallbrickproposal thattownappearstohaveendorsed.Inthecourseofdiscussion,itwasstatedthattheselectmenhad yettomakeafinalsidewalkdecisionandthatanydecisionaboutfundingultimatelywouldbe consideredbyTownMeeting.Moreover,theDisabilityCommissionwasencouragedtocontinuetotalk totheselectmenandotherinterestedparties.BettyBorghesanivolunteeredtodraftaCOAletterfor theadhocsidewalkcommitteeandtheselectmenthatwouldindicatetheimportanceofensuring safetyandaccessforeveryoneontownsidewalksandthenecessityofsidewalkmaintenance.COA membersunanimouslyvotedtosupportsendingsuchaletter.
