MINUTES OF MARCH 21, 1985 y Attendees Marge Battin, Jacqui Bateson, Laura Nichols, Dave Wells, Mary Hastings, Karsten Sorenson, Joe Trani, and Jack Eddison ,J Land Use Development Policy ` 1 Section 1 Comment Be changed to 'Necessarily, the center must serve residents of nearby communities and employees of businesses in the surrounding communities in order to sustain a large enough market to provide a range of goods and services for Lexington residents ' Section 2 Vote Revised by Norma Bogan at the request of Jacqui Bateson and Mary Hastings Approved Section 5 2 Changed for clarification 'The provision of public and private, common and shared parking facilities meeting parking demands that vary as to time of day, day of the week and season of the year should be encouraged Section 5 3 Jack Eddison discussed his concern in not evaluating impact of Bedford Street and Worthen Road on the Center The C R C is currently primarily involved in the customer oriented sections of the Center Section 6 1 Dave Wells questioned the consistency of 6 1 with the Study Discussion evolved over the conern of adequate space in the Center, the parking problem, and our current lot system. Dave Wells and Joe Trani will re-evaluate alternative possibilities Marge Battin will ask Wally Tonaszuck how often our lot experiences turn-aways. There are currently 23,000 people employed in Lexington. Laura Nichols expressed a need for a traffic study Further discussion of 6 1 will be held at our April 25th meeting Traffic Items Charlie Withrow, Lexington Police Department, discussed concern for a pedestrian injury resulting from jay walking and lack of observance of crosswalks by many drivers It was agreet that education, rather than envorcement, would be preferred Educational flyers, stickers for windows, reviewing the Center walk light and the possibility of more crosswalks were all recommended Concern for a crosswalk at Muzzey Stret for high school stucents was also expressed, but it was mentioned that it would have to be made accessible to the handicapped curb cuts Vote Parking Space at the intersection of Mass Avenue and Meriam Street was voted upon and approved to keep the space available for parking It was found that two of the seven accidents occuring form 4/7/83 to 4/8/84 were from drivers hitting the pedestrian walk sign The committee felt that the space is adequate and removal of the space is not necessary Vote Meeting adjourned at 1 35 p.m. Respectfully submitted-,- . / -1, </
