HomeMy WebLinkAbout2017-06-23-2020-minTown of Lexington 20/20 Vision Committee Meeting June 23, 2017 Parker Room, Town Office Building 1625 Massachusetts Avenue — 7:45am Members Present: Peter Enrich, Margaret Coppe, Fernando Quezada, Alan Wrigley, Kathleen Lenihan, Dan Krupka, Joe Pato, Andrew Dixon, Carrol Ann Bottino, Mark Manassas Members Absent: Ginna Johnson, Bhumip Khasnabish, Peter Lee Visitors: Marian Cohen Call to order: The meeting was called to order at 7:50 a.m. Minutes: The minutes from the 2020 Vision Committee meeting of May 26, 2017 were approved. Working Group on Social Diversity: Peter Enrich stated that four focus groups were convened involving 20 persons out of the 39 that had signed up. The meetings were productive. Each focus group involved one coordinator and one person to take notes. Peter himself participated in two of the focus groups and Claire Steth coordinated one of them. Notes from the focus group discussions have been given to Marian Cohen. The combination of all focus groups involved a wide mix of persons, each with individual views. Dan Krupka asked about the themes discussed. Margaret Coppe said that the lack of communication in the town was a recurrent theme. She also said that the Cary Library was also frequently mentioned. Marian Cohen agreed that the library scored high in many of the questionnaires. Another recurring theme was the need for more commercial development to offset the residential property taxes. Peter Enrich said that some persons are concerned with losing the sense of connectedness and community. Margaret Coppe pointed out that the traffic patterns continue to be an issue, particularly in the center. Andrew Dixon said that the survey served to confirm that there are "different universes" in the town. He also observed that there is less and less diversity in terms of professions. Peter Enrich suggested another few rounds of interpretation of focus group results. Fernando Quezada asked about plans to send thank you notes to focus group participants as well as a general thank you to all survey participants. Marian Cohen stated that she is continuing to work on the survey report which is already up to 75 pages. She was asked about the timeline and the student involvement. She said that she expects to have the first draft ready by the second week in July. She will share the draft with the working group. The question regarding the point at which the report becomes a public document. The consensus was that the presentation to the Board of Selectmen might be the best time to roll out the report to the general public. Peter Enrich said he would schedule a working group meeting for the end of the third week of July.
