The meeting began at 7:00pm,ending at 8:00 pm in the LHS Library Media Center Absent:Tasneem Ghadiali,Owen Rosenthal,Sadie Maloney,Isabella Barbesino Jimmy Athens,Doug Lucente,Shannon DeGuglielmo,Alexis Chen. Present:Debra Hankins,Duncan Maloney,Sofia Saleeby,Charlie Swan,Kristina Hankins, Sonal Setty,Eliza Babson,John Kefalas,Jack Gehring,Eva Benet,Gabriella Costello,Alice Ma,Tom Romano,Hannah Kieval,Kimly Nguyen,Sophie Read,Victoria Wu,Ava Kieval, Sarah Beuttell,Aaron Yu,Sophie Glavine,Margot Byers,Arden Carney,Nina Arnold, Adeline Favazzo,Meera Krishnan,Sarah Kochi,Sarah Chen,Keya Doshi 1.Reading of January,2024 Minutes and Approve -Sofia read the January minutes.They were approved by the committee and sent to archives. 2.Valentine Day -Collection of cards,fill envelopes make arrangements for deliveries to nursing homes on Friday,Saturday or Sunday,February 9,10,or 11th. -.Cards were delivered to Green Meadows,Youville,Pine Knoll,Care One,and the Senior Center at the Community Center.These cards brighten our senior ’s Valentine's Day.This project has a huge impact and puts a smile on many many faces. Duncan, Charlie and Tom thank you for making the deliveries.To all members THANK YOU for the personal notes you wrote,your creativity and dedication to this project. 3.March Service -Eyeglass Cleaning for Lions Club,Saturday March 23rd,12 pm to 2 pm,at C&W, -The Lions Eyeglass Project is set for March 23rd from 12-2pm at C&W... -Last year we cleaned over 1,500 pairs of glasses! -The glasses are sent to third world countries with volunteer groups,such as Doctors with Borders and Mission Groups from the Massachusetts Area. -Sarah Kochi described the event and how rewarding it is to know you are helping give someone the gift of sight.At the end of the event there will be pizza and cookies. 4.Patriots Day Events Saturday,April 13th and Monday,April 15th 2024. -Saturday we will meet at Arlex Oil to decorate and load the flags for the Monday Afternoon Parade.Time to be determined. -Monday,we meet at 12:00 noon across from the East Lexington Fire House.The parade kicks off at 2:00 pm.We walk the parade route handing out the flags.Your friends are welcome to join us,they will be given community service hours. 5.Tom’s Time Tom talked about looking for volunteers on the ½days for the MIddle School Trips from March 8th through June 7th.If you or any of your friends are interested in community service hours or just having fun participating along with the MIddle Schoolers at these events.Attached is the list of dates and description of events, Silent Disco:Tom handed out fliers for the Second Silent Disco (80’s Themed)at the community center,on Friday,March 15th from 8:00-10:00 pn.This event is where high school age students wear headphones,dancing their way through the Community Center. Attached is the flier,please pass it on to your friend group. Summer Hiring &Volunteering:Tom talked about the various work and volunteer opportunities that are available through the Recreation Department..There are many summer jobs available as well as volunteer opportunities.Please email him at tromano@lexington.gov. Future Events He is looking for Ideas for future events that HIgh School aged students would be interested in.Examples of some ideas:Go karting,Boda Borg,Laser tag,Dave and Buster,Bowling,etc. 6.Closing Comments -Toys for Tots follow-up from Detective Sowle -The director of Toys for Tots reached out to Detective Sowle with a letter expressing his gratitude for this committee and how much we helped during the Toys for Tots event.The members decided they would like to continue working with the LPD and Toys for Tots for next December 2024. -Please recruit new members for the committee.We have 7 graduating Seniors,which we will need to replace.Ideally we would like freshmen and sophomores to help us continue our journey and make a difference in the community.Deb finished off the meeting by thanking everyone for making their valentines cards and bringing them on time. Patriots Day 2024 -We will build a float the theme will be Lexington 250 years ago. Please come with some ideas for the April meeting,written or even better a drawing with ideas.
